A local dealer has mattress covers that are constructed with metal zippers. Many online dealers’ covers utilize plastic zippers. Are there any reports of these plastic zippers failing, coming apart, etc? I’d much prefer a metal zipper, but it is just starting to appear as though it’s not going to be in my value equation.

I’m not familiar with the specifics of all the covers that are used by the various online manufacturers/retailers that have component latex mattresses so I don’t know which ones have nylon or metal zippers or how they compare based on the many other ways they may be different (the quilting of the wool, the type of cotton, whether the cotton surface or backing is woven or a knit, the breed of the wool, and the amount of the wool etc.) but the manufacturers themselves are usually the most reliable source of this type of more specific or detailed information. Either way I haven’t heard of any particular issues regarding the zipper in any of them (metal or nylon) and most of them would be more similar than different in general terms even though they would have differences in more specific terms.
