Hi All. I am a pretty big guy, weighing in at around 315-325 and 6’4". I mostly sleep on my side. I tried out some mattresses at the local store and liked the memory foam. GIven my size would these hold up for me? I have a budget of around $1200. The pocket spring mattresses were nice as well and if you think they would be more durable I wouldn’t have any problem going that direction too. Any experience with this?

Your question is a little bit too broad to answer specifically because it depends on the type and density of the memory foam and the design of the mattress. Any material has low quality and higher quality versions and with higher weights then it becomes more important to make sure you use the highest quality and most durable materials or any type … particularly in the upper layers of your mattress which are generally the first to soften and breakdown. you will also need both firmer support layers and firmer and possibly thicker comfort layers than most people
With innersprings I would tend to be very cautious with pocket springs which tend to be much softer than either low gauge offset coils or even bonnell coils which can be stronger.
I would also stick with memory foam that was 5 lbs or higher and make sure you do some careful testing to make sure that the mattress was suitable for you in terms of PPP (Posture and alignment, Pressure relief, and Personal preferences).
I would also make sure that the base foam you use is high quality (I would suggest 2.0 lbs or higher).

The key with higher weights (or any set of circumstances that is outside the norm) is to make sure that you know the specifics of all the layers and components so you can make sure that there are no obvious weak links, that the mattress is strong and firm enough to support your higher weight, and that you are dealing with someone who is knowledgeable and experienced and is more interested in helping you choose the most suitable mattress than they are in just making the sale.
