I’m retiring my 10 year old spring air four seasons mattress and looking for something that stays cool. I had a foam topper on the spring air which had a blue side for summer but I still sweat so much.
I bought the Kingsdown coolest mattress in the world a couple weeks ago but I find it to be not much cooler than my previous one and slightly too firm. I still have the 120 days to exchange from sleep country and was wondering if you had any suggestions?
I’m open to all foam or coil or a hybrid. I am about 6’ and 200, wife is 130.
My wife and I previously had a kingsdown from sleep country. We found it too hot and the body impressions were unbearable. And that was our replacement after trying a different kingsdown for about 2 weeks. I don’t see why their gimmicky name of worlds coolest would really result in something cooler. They had to trademark the name in order to avoid misleading advertising claims.
One thing I have learned reading these forums over the last 2 months is that people on here don’t like the quality of the big box chain mattress stores.but you are stuck with them. Looks like you would probably want to try the 2 models of Natura mattress that they sell. I ended up with 2inches of latex and 2inches of wool on the top of my new mattress and that combination has kept us cool. Looks like Natura mattresses is the only thing they have with those materials.
I see the natura stirling lark and linden on the sleep country website. They look identical and are the same price. Is there something I’m missing? I don’t see what the difference is. But I’d be more than willing to switch out my Kingsdown for a Natura if it will help keep me cool.
If you look at the product details, the Lark has the “Natura Expulse Firm Airflow Core provides a superior firm feel” while the Linden has the “Natura Expulse Plush Airflow Core provides the sleeper with a soft, luxurious feel.” They do apparently use many common components but the cores seem to be the primary difference providing different levels of firmness and feel. Hope that helps.
I neglected to address your concern about those Natura mattresses sleeping cool. Without being able to try them myself, the firmer Lark is likely to sleep cooler. This is since as you’re positioned more deeply into a mattress the hotter it tends to sleep, with your body more surrounded by the comfort layers which limits air circulation. Since the Linden is the more plush of the two you will sleep more deeply into it rather than on top of it so it will tend to sleep hotter than the firmer Lark.
I will most likely go into store today and test out both of the Natura mattresses. My wife complained that the current Kingsdown is too firm, so may have to settle for the Linden which is the more plush of the two.
When you made the switch, was it noticeably cooler sleeping on the wool/latex?
I’ve tried a lot of different bedding materials and in my experience the coolest sleeping mattresses are microcoil over pocketed coil mattresses. Its all airflow but the feel is not for everyone. You will usually have either wool, horsehair, PLA, 1-2"+ of latex or any number of other materials over the microcoils for some cushioning. I personally like it. After microcoils in the comfort layer the best cooling material imo would be talalay latex over coil. Then Dunlop over coil. These are generalizations of course there’s some other factors like sinkage, mattress cover material, etc… I’m personally not a fan of gel memory foam or phase change material but others enjoy it.
