Mattress for Ikea Hemnes Daybed

Hi! I recently purchased a Hemnes Hemnes daybed for my petite 9 yo up on her insistence. Her room also serves as a guest room, where my parents stay when they come visit. I purchased theMeistervik Meistervik mattress but now I am having doubts if it will be comfortable. I have been overwhelmed trying to figure out which mattress to get. Then I started reading about fiberglass in foam mattresses and I got even more overwhelmed. Now I am beyond confused and I am glad I found this forum!

The bed will mostly be used by her and not opened unless we have guests. I want a mattress between 5-6 inches that is supportive and comfortable for young and older people alike. I don’t want too much of the base covered up, so I am looking for something between 5-6 inches. I would also prefer the mattress be affordable and not have fiberglass inside.

Thank you!

Hi faddu01.

Welcome to our Mattress Forum.

A 6" - 8" mattress profile is generally geared for children and aren’t especially comfortable for adults as they tend to be quite firm as per the needs of growing young bodies.

You may wish to have a topper on hand for guests to soften the mattress. I can’t personally recommend any mattresses in your preferred range but you may be interesting in a “DIY” of sorts with a latex slab from a place like Arizona Premium Mattress. You could do 4" firm/medium firm latex on the bottom with 2" of a soft or medium latex on top (as an example build).

If you find a mattress you’d like me to help you evaluate for your must haves/deal breakers, I’m also happy to do so!

Thank you so much! I got one of the IKEA mattresses and my daughter slept on it last night and she said it was too hard. I was having doubts about it so now it’s back to the drawing table. I will definitely let you know if I find something I am considering!
