Mattress forming to shape of slats?

So I’ve had my king sized bed for a little less than a year and I’m starting to notice that the mattress is forming to the shape of the slats. The mattress used to lay flat across the slats but now it’s dipping down in the middle and on the sides just like the slats do. Is this normal with curved slats?

Hi sleepallday,

It would depend on the design of flexible slat system you are using and the quality and strength of the slats and on how flat they are when they are compressed by the mattress (and to some degree on the mattress as well). Many of these flexible slat system don’t flex on each side or in the middle and this would probably be more common with some of the lower quality flexible slat systems that I’ve seen that don’t support the mattress evenly and can dip on the sides or the middle (or in some cases the slats are weaker and can bend past the point of being flat). A mattress will take on the contour and shape of the support system underneath it over time.

If the dips are affecting how well you sleep and if you put your mattress on the floor and it seems to help then it would confirm that there may be an issue with the flexible slat support system you are using.
