Mattress foundations in Germany

Hi there,

I have been reading a lot of the information on mattresses offered in this forum in the last 4 weeks or so and I must say that it is a terrible rabbit hole to go into.
But at least I now feel like I know quite a bit about mattress construction. So I went on to lie down on some mattresses to find out what I like. I find a nice local manufacturer that does not have any ties to any local chains and talked to him, thinking about buying a mattress from him. He seemed very knowledgeable and actually interested in getting me a proper setup, not trying to push me to buy anything right away. However, he heavily recommended to invest in a more expensive type of bed foundation, insisting that it had a large impact on the quality of my sleep. He recommended getting the fourth base on this list (https://betten-reich.de/rahmen/), named Alb-Ruh TFS KF. It is not a foundation type I have seen on this forum, also not in the stickied post on foundations. He actually recommended investing in that and cutting on the budget I had allocated for buying my mattress instead.
I am thinking of getting a cheaper all-latex mattress (Dunlop, still passes all the recommendations on the forum) from another manufacturer (or perhaps a or a pocket-coil-innerspring mattress) and buying the expensive bed frame from him. Is that crazy? Should I disregard his advice and just buy a standard slatted frame as well as a more expensive mattress?

Any help is appreciated, thank you for the work that you do! God bless you and greetings from Germany!

Hi spahn.

Welcome to our Mattress Forum.

Wow! I’ve never seen a base like this in my life. It looks really interesting and based on what I could gather from a translation, it looks like it’s meant to by highly responsive to each person’s sleeping profile and pressure points. I can’t say whether or not it’s worth the investment since I’ve never seen a product like this, but I can tell you that if you choose not to purchase it, you’ll be absolutely fine on a regular slatted base.

If you are able to test that base in comparison to a slatted base and decide based on feel, that’d be another story, of course! If you find you absolutely love and prefer the feel of this interesting base then it would be worth the investment.
