Maybe my post will help some people… After buying myself a mattress-in-box recently, and hearing from a few friends and colleagues who did the same, I came to conclusion that if you are heavier sleepers, more than 200 pounds, you should go a notch firmer than what you first wanted, example; you want a medium-firm then go for the firm instead, need a soft mattress, choose medium… May not be a rule of thumb, but for us, it was always softer than expected, not enough support! So think about your weight when you select a mattress… I’m I in left field saying that?
Good idea!!
Im 225 pounds, 5ft 11in. I tried Purple 4 and it killed my back.
Another idea would be to totally avoid bed in a box because there is not much support structure left if a bed is jammed in a box. Although Casper Nova Hybrid was half way decent though.

Hi Michou.
Not left field at all. It makes sense since layers compress more and get more “wear” under heavier weight. Your idea is good in terms of a longer lasting mattress; of course, the best factor is knowing the IFD/density of a foam in a mattress relative to your BMI. You’d likely find our Durability Guidelines interesting.
