Went to Mattress Maker in Brockton Ma and I don’t remember being asked one question other than what I was looking for. I said mattress and we tried some mattresses and they pointed out some different firmness beds but never asked to determine what the best fit was or anything. I was expecting a different experience.

There are many people that prefer to be left alone when they are testing mattress … at least initially … and every store has many walk ins that are just “putting their toe in the water” so to speak so it’s sometimes difficult for a salesperson to know how much involvement a customer tends to prefer. It’s certainly possible that a salesperson may be either more or less involved than a customer prefers until they start asking more specific questions. Of course it’s also possible that you encountered a salesperson that wasn’t particularly knowledgeable or helpful as well.
Were they able to answer all the questions you asked them?

That may explain things … it sounds like you were both in “silent mode” 
While each person is different … I personally tend to prefer sales people that are friendly and let me know that they are there to help me but “keep some distance” while I am just “looking around” until I have questions and then to become more actively involved once I start asking questions.
