I stumbled across a small company in So Cal (near San Diego) named Mattress Makers. They make a hybrid and a latex hybrid mattress that looked interesting. On outward appearance they look similar to DLX mattresses due to the fact that the mattress top zippers closed and you can change foam/latex firmness . Anyone have one of their mattresses and can share their thoughts!

Mattress Makers in So Cal is an excellent place to purchase a mattress. Their staff is exceptionally experienced and professional. The are cognizant of matching and fitting clients with the perfect mattress for each sleepers personal preferences, posture & alignment configurations, and pressure relief concerns.
DLX makes great mattresses and their premier hybrid does have a zippered cover to allow for modifications.
Mattress Makers tend to focus more on latex and latex hybrids, but also has a series of traditional flippable mattresses made with higher density foams and springs for durability and longevity.
Their videos on youtube are super helpful and educational. They focus on edge to edge coil designs, and utilize the less is more philosophy.
I am looking forward to visiting their showroom in August.

I love mine. The Soledad. My best mattress ever. I had trouble choosing a firmness. I ended up with a firm and put a Talalay topper on it. They make great mattresses and are really nice people. Good luck.

About six years ago I did all the research, went to all the stores, laid on all the mattresses. From the $1000 ones to the $5000 ones. None of them were right. Ended up going on mission to try a latex mattress and for that San Diego Mattress Makers was the only game in town.
I walked in, laid on a Soledad (medium firmness) and paid within 15 min. Six years later, firmness is still perfect. Absolutely one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. Their staff is top notch too.
I actually had to warranty mine recently because the coils shifted on the edge of one side and no questions asked these guys just gave me a brand new mattress (minus the latex layer which is still as good as the day I bought it). **A note about that, they used to use single coils and now they use “quad packs” which I guess addresses whatever the issue was.
Plus you can customize it - their name is not a gimmick, they will make whatever you want. A buddy of mine had one custom made for his boat in some weird shape for the cabin.
All that to say, while mattresses are totally subjective, between the modular design, outstanding customer service and guarantee of their products, I would not go anywhere else. These guys know their stuff. I recommend you go there and I tell all my friends the same.

I was traveling out of the country for work but plan to go next week! They were so helpful on the phone and suggested the medium Coronado for me. Will definitely report back after I try it out!
