First, SleepEZ is a good company. Real latex, real people, and they have been doing this a long time. Nothing below is a knock on them. You asked what you might be missing, so here is what I would actually look at.
Comparing apples to apples is always a bit tricky, especially with latex mattresses.
There are a lot of little subtle variables that are hard to communicate and also easy to miss.
1. Compare the latex, not the mattress height.
Both of us list a total height that includes the quilted cover. If I have their build right, the Select Sleep 10" is 9 inches of latex plus a 1 inch wool quilted cover, and the 9 inch is 8 inches of latex under that same cover. So a true comparison would be against the select 10”, which their price is $2308.
Our Presidio and Coronado are 9 inches of latex with the cover on top of that. Worth one phone call to them to confirm which one you priced, because if you are comparing 8 inches of latex to 9 inches, that alone explains a real piece of the gap.
2. The ticking is doing more than the spec sheet suggests.
Theirs is organic cotton quilted to wool, which is a decent cover. I honestly do not know its weight. Ours is a 500 g heavyweight ticking, Tencel on the Presidio and organic cotton on the Coronado. The reason we pay up for a heavy stretch knit is simple: a stiff cover sits over the latex like a drum head and mutes it. A stretchier cover lets you feel the latex you paid for. It is a real cost line and it changes the feel more than most people expect.
3. Where the Talalay comes from.
The majority of ours comes from the Netherlands. Talalay is not one commodity price, it moves with the source, and that shows up in the final number.
4. On the Coronado, you found the real debate.
We use a single 6 inch Dunlop base instead of two 3 inch layers. Dunlop has some natural variability from pour to pour, so when you stack pieces you can stack that variability along with it. In our opinion, A single core gives me more consistent support and better stability, and that is the side of the debate we come down on. The honest tradeoff: their stacked layers let you reorder and swap firmness yourself at home, You can still do that with ours, but just the top layer. If needed, we can swap the bottom layer, but only in special situations when needed.
5. 10 Year Guarantee.
Our 10 year Love Your Mattress Guarantee is a comfort promise, not just a defect warranty. If the bed is no longer comfortable for you in year 3 or year 9, we adjust it, and the zippered top is what makes that easy to do. That is a piece of the price, and it is the piece that never shows up on a spec sheet.
One thing worth more than either brand for you specifically. At 5’9" and 165 side sleeping, the top comfort layer is what decides whether your shoulder and hip get in, more than the core does. Whoever you buy from, have that conversation about the top layer for a lighter side sleeper before you order rather than after.
