As most of us know, the cryptocurrency Bitcoin has gained a lot of ground in the last few years. With now more than 60,000 merchants accepting Bitcoin with large players such as overstock.com, tigerdirect.com, and virgin galactic just to name a few.
Since this website, is by far, the best mattress resource online, I thought it would be a good idea to allow mattress retailers that accept Bitcoin to list their website. This will make it easier for those who want to spend their Bitcoins on mattresses, toppers, pillows etc…
We are implementing Bitpay, and will have a Bitcoin cart in the near future, however we are now accepting Bitcoin on our website in a simpler form.
Although it’s not directly related to mattresses, the whole idea of alternative currencies and the definition of money is a topic that I have been very interested in and researched for many years.
If I was a retailer or manufacturer I would be very hesitant to accept bitcoin and I personally consider it to be more of a speculative commodity than a stable currency at it’s current stage of development and maturity. Retailers or manufacturers that accepted it several months ago for example would have lost over half the value of the payments they received since the price crashed from over $1100 to under $500.
Of course the other side of the “coin” is that it may attract consumers where accepting bitcoin is an important part of their personal value equation (just like some people may only consider a retailer or manufacturer that accepts a certain form of payment or offers financing) and the increased business may offset any losses or make the additional risk worth it for some businesses.
It will be interesting to see some of the comments you may get.
I clicked on the link you added to your post and I couldn’t see anything about bitcoin or bitpay on the page it links to. Did you link to the wrong page or is the bitcoin/bitpay information still being added to the page?
That’s really interesting. It’s going to take a lot of vendors of different products to give more of a feeling of legitimacy to bitcoin.
Now, gold and silver seem different to me in that if I were selling a product I’d be far more inclined to accept precious metals as payment than I would bitcoin at the current time, even though the price of those has certainly declined from their highs also.
I’ve also been interested in the topic of currencies for a while now.
As Max Keiser said " Gold and Silver are precious metals, and Bitcoin is precious code"
We believe in Bitcoin because
1- It’s decentralized (cannot be controlled by government or banks),
2- low fees (pennies per transaction)
3- Unlike credit cards, No Charge backs
4-Allows anybody with a cell phone to conduct business without banks
Yes like all new ideas, it’s volatile at the moment, but as it gains acceptance, and has its own Bitcoin Exchange it will stabilize. Interesting interview with Max Keiser in the second half of this show
Here are some great lectures on the future of Cryptocurrencies
I was looking all over the page to find something about accepting Bitcoin and I must have scrolled right past it.
While I’m not as big a fan of Bitcoin as some of the links you pointed out appear to be (and many others that I’ve read that all say the same basic things) because of what I see what I see as some fundamental flaws … all of that is probably outside of the scope of the forum.
It will be certainly be interesting to see how it goes for you.
