Hello there,
I’ve been following the discussion boards here and am impressed with the expertise in this forum! My wife and I have been doing research for awhile as well as visiting showrooms where possible. We are getting pretty burnt out on the whole process of trying to understand differences between models/brands/shop policies, etc…
A bit about us: She is a side sleeper (135 lb) with pressure point/tendinitis on her right shoulder. I am a stomach sleeper (165 lb) with lumbar back issues. We had a really good experience with a King Koil mattress when renting a furnished house and fell in love with it (an older model called the King Koil Bedrock) and thus began our search when we moved into a new house…
We have landed on two different current King Koil models and are trying to understand the difference. We prefer the feel of one of them, which unfortunately happens to be from a regional chain store that doesn’t provide any type of trial or return/exchange, a rather off-putting policy on such a large investment. Can anyone please help us understand what is different about these? Can’t seem to figure it out but they definitely feel different.
Here are the links. We intend to buy a Queen-size:
Intimate Izabel Extra Firm Euro Top (also called Rexford Extra Firm Euro Top elsewhere)
Mattress Option 1
La Jolla - Firm
Mattress Option 2
Thank you!

Hi Calfornia_dreaming.
Welcome to our Mattress Forum.
Thanks for the kind words! We always appreciate hearing reports that the content on the site and the discussions in the forum are educating more and more consumers every day! I definitely understand the feeling on “burnout” and it sounds like you may have hit an “analysis paralysis” wall.
That said, it also appears you have narrowed down your options based on what you’ve learned, as well as your own in-person testing and history with mattresses.
While I’m sure you’ve already come across these resources in your research, if you haven’t, you may wish to review our Mattress Shopping Tutorial (great for overcoming the analysis paralysis), as well as our Mattress Durability Guidelines and this article on sleeping positions and their different support and comfort needs.
I took a look at the specifications I could find on the two mattresses you shared.
The La Jolla lists…
- stretch, knit Tencel fabric
- infused memory foam (IFD not mentioned)
- graphite infused firm Talalay latex (available in different firmness levels)
- 858 encased coil system
The Intimate Izabel…
- tufted
- 4# density responsive memory foam
- 2000 perimeter zoned micro coils
- 825 contourflex pro encase coil system
The Jolla has latex, the Izabel does not but does use an adequately durable memory foam (assuming you are both within a normal BMI range).
They use differing types of memory foam, and the Izabel uses 2 kinds of coils.
I hope breaking it down this way for you helps you visualize the differences and narrow your choice once and for all!
