Mattress semi-firm to Plush topper Dilemma

I have been reading the form for a while and it was a huge help in purchasing my mattress. I purchased from Lapensee a local manufacturer who seem to have the best quality for price. My dilemma is that I purchased a semi – firm mattress but it has turned out to be too hard giving me soar shoulders in the morning and pins / needles throughout the night.

I went back to the store and I can either use my comfort guarantee and the mfg. will perform surgery and swap out the top layer of semi-firm foam for a layer of plush foam under warranty or I can purchase a topper and use it on the firm side to create a plush mattress or on the semi firm side to create an ultra plush mattress.

I am not sure what to do? I like the surgery option because its free and everything will be integrated but I also like the idea of the topper because
I can have a plus or ultra plush mattress and would be able to flip my mattress.

Any advice? I am leaning towards surgery because its a new matters and who really buys a new mattress just to turn around and get a topper. I could get a topper in a few years and put on the firm side if things break down.

Hi Babbsy,

If I was in your shoes I would probably lean towards the same thing as you for the same reasons. In the best case the mattress will be “ideal” and in the worst case it would probably be “closer” and you would still have the option of a topper for any additional fine tuning you may need either now or in the future.

I would also do some careful testing on any softer mattresses they have on their floor so you can use this as a reference point for your changes as well.

If your mattress is two sided but has different firmness levels on each side then outside of sleeping on a different firmness level due to specific situations where it may be useful (such as injury of if your preferences change over time) … you would lose some of the benefits of a two sided mattress because you would likely sleep on the side that was the best match for you most of the time.
