Mattress Shopping help while Shelter in Place

My situation:
I had the very unfortunate timing to move to a brand new place and decide to entirely refurnish it from scratch. However due to what I knew was an impending shelter in place order I rushed to make a mattress decision with the Flexus Quadra-Flex Medium Queen on top of a Zinus platform I’d ordered.

But since that’s literally all I had at my new place and my older parents could use someone younger to run errands I ended up sheltering in place with them and only occasionally sleeping at my new place on the new mattress. So far I haven’t liked it personally as it feels too stiff, almost as though there’s a pressure point in the middle of my back or thighs (I’m an all position sleeper but lean towards stomach sleeping) and the rest of my body is lower than it. Its hard to tell if I’m sinking past the comfort layer of medium (28 ILD latex) or if the latex is the problem or if its the zoned coils. But with only about 8 cumulative nights (the longest being 3 nights in a row), I haven’t spent a ton of time sleeping there. Luckily I’ve gotten the return extend to the end of May but with that fast approaching I’m looking at returning it at this point as every time I try it, I feel so much pressure on my lower back.

Asking for Help:

Because right now hasn’t been the most ideal mattress situation I decided I’d turn to this board for some possible insight. I’m 175’, 6’ and mostly a stomach sleeper but really that’s what I wake up in with falling asleep in any position possible. I’m coming from an old twin foam mattress that I loved till it started breaking down in December of this year. Was nothing special just a perfectly dense, probably furniture foam (don’t know cause I didn’t research back then). While I want some sink, I did try memory foam and felt like I was too much in quicksand. Tried a lot of other mattresses from foam to normal and did get to briefly try a couple hybrid latex beds (3-5" with unknown ILDs & open coils) and took that as thinking I’d like the Flexus too. I’ve thought about a topper but also talked through that if you’re paying for a mattress you should be needing to supplement it with a topper that can slide about either.

So any help or direction or follow up questions I’m happy and look forward too.

@chiefyarbs - Sorry to hear about the issues you’re experiencing with the Flexus Quadra-Flex mattress you purchased. Have you discussed the specific problems you’ve detailed above with Flexus? Since it’s their product they have the most experience with it and diagnosing issues to best meet the needs of their customers. I’d suggest contacting them directly with your issues and see what they suggest to address them. They also have their own Expert Forum which could be used for this purpose or you could privately contact them by phone or email. Good luck and stay safe!

@cheifyarbs Sorry to hear our mattress is currently not meeting your comfort needs. Because we are built differently we offer this mattress in soft, medium, and firm. We offer a layer exchange for this particular mattress. Based on your height and weight I would recommend exchange the medium latex layer for the soft latex layer. That is the beauty of this mattress, the flexibility to change the feel. I would be happy to talk to you so we can make sure you are as comfortable as many of our customers. We are here to help.

Thanks for the direction Bill!

I’ve been in contact with their customer service some (been very helpful) and will venture over to the Expert Forum as well. Partly wanted to check here as based on what I’ve come to understand the mattress just might not be for me however I haven’t had an ideal test run compared to a normal situation.

And with the thought of possibly returning if, just wanted to see if anyone might help provide direction as unfortunately going to stores right now is not ideal in the current near future. Plus always feel like its best to cast a wide net regarding information so if any comments just sparked any feedback or ideas.

Thanks again

Just wanted to follow up after some recent conversations with Flexus (who have been amazing customers service throughout this process), decided to give the soft a try as the the original order might be a bad fit.

I’ve also been in the just bad position that I’ve not had the time to give my body time to adjust to the mattress due not consistently sleeping on it as I’ve had to mostly shelter in place elsewhere.

Excited further test out the medium with things reopening a bit more and give the soft comfort layer a try. Greatful the Flexus’ customer service through this process and when its not ideal shopping in stores right now the ability to customize really is sorta ideal.

Hey chiefyarbs,

Welcome to the TMU Forum  ! Good to have you here.

I read your initial post yesterday and the quick support responses you received from both consumer @SweetDreams/ Bill (thanks so much for your excellent council) and expert member Flexus Comfort, whose whose QUADRA-Flex Medium mattress you had purchased recently (thanks too FC for your thoughtful response). Sorry to hear you’ve had some adjustment issues, but it sounds like Flexus is working with you on a comfort exchange to hopefully remedy that situation. BTW, hope both you and your folks are doing well during the current shelter-in-place, good to hear that you are close by and know that means a lot to them :).

We feel strongly about the knowledge, quality and post-sale service they provide their customers, part of the strict criteria that manufacturers must have proven to receive “Recommended by The Mattress Underground” expert member status. Looking forward to updates after you exchange for/ receive the soft comfort layer and hoping that works out better for you.

Thanks,
