Mattress Specs

Is there some sort of database type site that has the specs for different mattresses? I keep seeing different specs in posts, but not sure where to get all them, besides a lot of leg work and time that are both in very low quanity right now.

Hi Chirurgeon,

I wish there was but unfortunately there isn’t. The best you can normally do is to learn about the different types and qualities of foam and other materials and components and then evaluate each mattress based on what is in it. This is why it’s so important to only deal with manufacturers or retailers that are both willing and able to tell you exactly what is in their mattresses (and have the knowledge and experience to help educate their customers) so you can make meaningful evaluations and comparisons of a mattress based on what is in it instead of the brand label that is on it.

This is the reason for step 3 in post #1 here which suggests putting as much effort into choosing who you buy from as you do into the mattress you buy.

Who you deal with can be even more important than the mattress you choose in terms of your long term satisfaction with a mattress for this reason (among others). Most of the larger manufacturers in the industry have no interest in disclosing what is in their mattress because better durability means less frequent mattress purchases and lower profits and they are well aware that most consumers will take the easier path of buying based on marketing stories than taking the time to find out the real quality and value of a mattress. By the time their mattress needs replacing (usually much sooner than they expected) and they are ready to buy again they will repeat the same cycle all over again based on the newest marketing stories. You can read more about this in post #404 here and post #12 here and of course in many posts and articles throughout the site.
