dHi everyone, My query is regarding a bed I just purchased and the difference in the advertised components vs. components listed on mattress tag. The new bed is made by Diamond Mattress Company and is an Ethos Marigold Pillowtop. It is a Hybrid Latex bed, and it is advertised on the website as follows:
“Marigold™: The Marigold is designed with your health and family in mind. It’s built with organic cotton, hypo-allergenic Talalay latex and Eco-Flex foam. It’s the ultimate combination for a good nights sleep,” and has the words "Organic Cotton’ stamped all over the cover of the bed. Further in the description on website lists “7 series nested coils” as being part of the support layer of the bed. However, the mattress tag only includes polyurethane foam, latex, rayon batting, and polyester in the materials list. No mention of coils or organic cotton, which leaves me quite concerned. Any feedback on this matter is appreciated. Thank you.

The law tag will only show the padding materials in your mattress listed as a percentage of their weight and it won’t include the innerspring or the materials in the cover.

That’s a good question. There are different requirements for what the mattress law tag needs to contain, and it varies by state. Some good explanations of this are here and here.
The label isn’t necessarily designed to tell you the contents (although that can be included in the “other information section”), but is instead intended to provide information such as manufacturer, prototype ID #, compliance with various standards, and proof of new or used material content.
The best source for the content of the mattress would be the retailer and/or manufacturer of the product.
And as an aside, just because “Organic Cotton” is sewn into a covering, it doesn’t mean that the cover is GOTS organic certified, It may mean that the cotton content of the cover uses organic certified cotton, but there may also be other materials blended into that cover to create the finished fabric. I don’t know if that is the case here with this particular mattress. That’s just a general note for others who might be reading this answer.

As Jeff mentioned the best source for information about the mattress will be the retailer that sells it or the manufacturer because they should be able to provide you with all the information in this article about the type and quality and thickness of all the materials and components in your mattress and the blend of fibers in the cover.
Sometimes there may be a separate tag that shows the blend of fibers in the cover as well but this isn’t always the case.
