Hello
We are mid 40s, 60kg female and 75kg male, male has slight lower back issue so needs decent support. side/ front sleepers.
I’m looking to replace my 18yr old medium firm pocket sprung mattress with a pillow top (Johnlewis branded and has been amazing) with a new mattress.
I was initially looking at the johnlewis British Natural Collection Herdwick 11000 Mattress, Regular Tension, King Size (https://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-british-natural-collection-herdwick-11000-mattress-regular-tension-king-size/p111198302), however noticed a few review about sagging.
I then went to Dreams and tested the Flaxby Master’s Guild 8450 Pocket Sprung Mattress, which has pretty much the same reviews, ie a few sagging comments.
BUT then came across the Relyon Natural Supreme 2500 Mattress (Relyon Natural Supreme 2500 Mattress at Mattressman), which is about half the cost but also feels great.
Should i be concerned at the Relyon brand/ mattress at all? any thoughts on quality vs johnlewis/flaxby?
It’s understandable that you’re wary of those sagging reviews. A lot of the time, “sagging” is actually just low-density foam (anything under 1.8 lb) or natural fibers compressing without being rotated.
Those high spring counts like 11,000 are often a bit of a gimmick. They use tiny micro-springs to pad out the numbers, but they don’t necessarily add more support than a solid 1,500 to 2,500 count mattress.
Relyon is actually a very solid, old-school British brand. The Natural Supreme 2500 is likely a much more “honest” build than the ones with massive spring counts. It uses quality wool and silk, which should hold up well for side and front sleepers.
If you can find a double-sided version that you can flip and rotate, it’ll likely outlast the pricier single-sided options. Just make sure to check if there’s any cheap foam hidden in the layers, if it’s low density, that’s where your potential for sag will come from.
