Hello. Help ! We need a new mattress . I don’t care for latex, I love memory foam . I’m terribly allergic to dust mites so have to stay w memory foam. BUT!!! My husband is 225 lbs, and I’m maybe 120 lbs. once he sleeps on his side of the memory foam after about 6 mo… it’s slouching already so there is no rotating it clockwise ! So do I just go get a memory foam on sale about every two years or … WHAT ??? I have 4 fusions in my neck w a steel plate & we both have arthritis pretty bad. Between our two body weights being so different , I know there’s really no resolution to this. We ve had that “purple” thing . Had a Denver Mattress and when we moved it , it naturally screwed it up, turning it sideways made all the 5 yrs of dust, etc made all of that go into the side that movers turned it on inside the moving truck & the trip of 6 hours in the truck ruined that one, when we set it back up it felt like cement
DONT MOVE A MEMORY FOAM ITLL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN!
Any ideas for me ?
I join you in your love of memory foam, since it has an amazing ability to relieve pressure that is unmatched by any other substance. However, not all memory foam is the same and the lower the density, the quicker it usually it starts to lose its integrity. 5lb. density memory foam is the gold standard for durability. On the Tempflow mattresses (www.Tempflow.com) I helped design, most models use 5lb. and some combine 4lb. and 5lb. for those that like a softer initial touch, but still want to retain the more durable support. High density memory foam is also inherently dust mite resistant, so I am not sure what you would need to stay away from it, considering the alternative types of lower density conventional and memory foam, along with the traditional quilted mattresses have far more potential for dust mite proliferation. Dust mites consider fiber, especially cotton, a very hospitable environment, which is why Tempflow and Back Science mattresses are made with a very hypoallergenic viscos of bamboo and polyester combination.
Back Science (www.BackScience.com) has a feel that is more traditional in it’s feel, but the best way to describe it is somewhere between latex and memory foam, so if you want a pure memory foam feel, then my recommendation would be to take a look at the Tempflow GlacierSupreme Firm or Tempflow EliteConforma Medium, as they both use higher density memory foam that allows for the mattress to have an unprecedented 40-year limited warranty that triggers at just 3/4 inch of sag, compared to the general mattress industry sag requirement of 1.5 inches. Both of those two Tempflow mattresses have a multi-layer design that allows your lighter body to get the pressure relief you need, but also allow your husband to not bottom out. If you go with the Tempflow GlacierSupreme firm is made to feel more luxurious for those who want a firmer design that will still offer the pressure relief needed for side sleepers. The EliteConforma accomplishes the pressure relief a bit better on the surface, but then won’t be quite as luxurious in terms of the depth of penetration that the GlacierSupreme has, though both work well for side sleeping. If budget is an issue, the next best recommendation would be the Tempflow Conforma medium, which is a step down from the EliteConforma medium, but still a much higher level memory foam mattress when compared to the Bed-In-The-Box compressed lower density memory foam mattresses you will find from most manufacturers.
