MEMORY FOAM WITH SILICA FIRE RETARDANT

Hello,

I’m looking for a memory foam mattress that uses silica as it’s fire retardant. Does anyone know of a brand that uses just that as their fire retardant? I know Nest Bedding uses silica, but I don’t think they make a strictly memory foam only mattress. Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Jewels

Hey Jewels,

Nice to see you back on the forum  ! Thanks for your question.

Hydrated silica is often woven into fabrics and used as a fire barrier in “natural” mattress stories. Did you check out NB’s Alexander Signature Flippable Mattress? It is close to what you’re looking for in a memory foam mattress. Otherwise, that’s one of those minute details that you’ll find while digging for buried treasure in product descriptions and FAQ’s on sites. Perhaps other consumers will check in and share memory foam mattress brands that use hydrated silica in the FR materials. Otherwise, if you find others, please feel free to share them with TMU consumers  . Good luck with your research Jewels and keep us updated…

Thanks,
Sensei

Hello,

Thank you for replying. I will have the check the Nest Bedding flippable mattress out. I’ve noticed Tempurpedic (depending on the mattress) uses modacrylic, fiberglass and other fire retardants I’m trying to avoid. I seem to react to modacrylic, though there’s no way to test for reactions to that fire retardant. I’ve notice many cheap memory foam mattresses on Amazon also use fiberglass as their fire retardant. I’ve found comfortable mattresses, unfortunately I end up sick. I feel like finding a safe and comfortable mattress is like looking for a needle in a haystack. It’s time to stop putting fire retardants in mattresses. I believe California is banning many of the fire retardants used in mattresses. I wish all states would do that.

I have tried latex mattresses, but I can’t find one that feels comfortable to me. I have no reactions to organic and natural mattresses.

Thank you,
