Looking for info from @PCS. I have a DIY mattress that I built from components from Arizona Premium Mattress in 2022, which has been fantastic. Ken provided great recommendations. At the time, I didn’t see any sort of microcoil system available to DIYers, so thank you!
I’m a big guy, 5’9” and 350 lbs. My wife is more average weight, so we have a split king to achieve better customization for each of us.
My current build on my side is a L&P Combizone 8” coil unit, 3” medium natural Talalay latex, and 3” firm natural Dunlop latex. I’d originally had the medium on top, but switched them after a few months to achieve a slightly firmer feel (though the difference was very small). After about 3 years and my stress on the materials, I’m starting to get some back pain, so I’m looking to make an adjustment.
My first thought was to go with two 3” firm latex layers (instead of the current medium + firm), but then I came across your Quadmini unit. I recognize that different materials respond differently and ultimately feel is very personal, so I’m looking for your professional opinion.
Would a build of the 8” combizone, 3” quadmini, and 3” firm latex be appropriate and (preferably) slightly firmer or more supportive than my current build? Anything that you suggest/can do to ensure it holds up to my weight?
Also, my wife is happy with her side…is it possible to get a twin xl with one firm edge like a split king?
Thank you so much for any advice and help you can provide!
