Motion isolation recs

Hello,

My husband and I need a mattress with excellent motion isolation, and I am hoping for some recommendations. He swears that with our current Lucid comfort mattress (link below) he can feel his own heartbeat vibrating the mattress, and any minor movements I make are amplified. If it comes to buying a split king bed so be it, but those seem to have their own challenges so I am wondering if there are some options that optimize motion isolation. Thank you.

Hi Mushroom.

The brands and mattresses that immediately come to mind are those that offer split comfort layers (not only for the difference in your comfort and support needs, but also to limit/eliminate motion transfer).

Sleep EZ’s organic latex mattress would be a good option, as would Nest Bedding’s Signature Hybrid.

If you’re wanting to avoid a split mattress, then I’d suggest perhaps looking into a dunlop latex mattress. Dunlop is often compared to pound cake (as opposed to talalay which is springier, like angel food cake). Is there somewhere you’d be able to test a latex mattress nearby to see how the motion isolation compares to your current bed?

Thank you. I had only considered the two XL twin “split king” option, and had not realized there is a split comfort layer “split king” option that is encased as one unit. It seems to me the latter would avoid the dreaded issue of the large crevice between the two XL beds. Does having split comfort layers minimize motion transfer? Even though they are still encased together as one unit?

Hi Mushroom,
Some brands that have the two XL twin “split kings” design it with a plush layer on top that encases the entire top layer which helps prevent the crevice from happening. Obasan does this.
An individually pocketed coil would also reduce motion transfer; Vispring has this (they are the inventor) but not sure what your price point is or whether you are committed to a foam/latex mattress. Naturepedic also uses individually pocketed coils and layers latex on top for less motion transfer. I’m sure others also do this if a hybrid mattress interests you. Hope this helps a little.
