Put (putting?) together a latex mattress build. Right now (and for the foreseeable future) I have 6 inches of Dunlop.
My new bedframe has slats that are 3.25 inches apart-and only 1/2 of an inch thick of plywood-maybe pine??
The cost of lumber here is astronomical right now because of covid, or else I would just go out and buy some more wood to make more appropriate slats/ or a better bedframe.
Is this going to be okay or am I at risk for collapse and and mattress sag between the slats? I live in the Pacific Northwest so moisture is a concern.
If I added a Coir bed rug would that solve the problem of sagging? I’m hoping one of these guys would just solve all the problems somehow.
If I added a few more slats to correct the distance would that work, or will I run into problems with the thinner slats?
I am a small person weighing under 140 lbs. Sometimes my partner stays here, that would be an extra 180-200 lbs, if thats important.
Any ideas how I can solve this problem as cost effectively as possible?
Welcome back to the forum and thanks for your updates .
Generally speaking you should avoid slatted foundations with more than 3" gaps when using a latex mattress. What size mattress is going on the frame (think your previous posts refer to a queen size project), is there a center support of some kind and can you add a pic?
You could add a Coir Bed rug to your set up for added support of the Dunlop layer. Are you already experiencing sagging with your latex or simply making future adjustments?
Perhaps if you can include a link to where the foundation came from so I can review the measurements, product specs, as well as images, that would be of help for further discussion. Looking forward to those when you some have time…
The slats are 3.5 inches apart. I can easily move the slats around, so I was planning on moving the slats to be 2.5 inches apart, and then buying some additional wood to add some extra slats to the bottom to hopefully save a little money.
Did you end up having any success with your bed/does this work? Anyone have any recs on types of wood or anything?
