I have not had a good experience with a “My Green Mattress” Natural Escape Mattress placed on a “Legget and Platt” Prodigy LBR adjustable base, although “My Green Mattress” indicates it is compatible with an adjustable bed base with no mention of any limitations on the use of the features of the adjustable base when the Natural Escape mattress is placed on a adjustable bed base. The attached photo was taken with a human body (approximately 145 pound) and the head position of adjustable base fully raised. The photo clearly shows the large gap between the lumbar support and mattress, making the lumbar support unusable. The mattress was replaced with a Saatva Zen Haven all latex mattress and all of the features of the adjustable base are now usable. It has been indicated that gaps between a hybrid mattress and adjustable base are an industry standard. A better choice may be an all latex or memory foam mattress for an adjustable base, instead of a hybrid mattress.
We were contacted regarding this customer’s concerns about the Natural Escape mattress and its use with an adjustable base. The customer indicated that the mattress does not fully touch the adjustable base when the head or foot is elevated and stated that his massage feature on the adjustable base—purchased from a third-party retailer—does not function as expected.
We would like to clarify the following points:
• The Natural Escape mattress is fully compatible with adjustable bases. It is normal for hybrid mattresses with innersprings, as well as all-foam or latex mattresses, to have slight gaps between the mattress and base when the head or foot sections are elevated. This spacing does not indicate a defect and is consistent across industry standards. We have included example images of other mattresses from various brands showing the same fit on adjustable bases.
• The mattress was purchased April 25, 2023, over two years ago and is outside the return period. As such, it is not eligible for a refund.
• The massage functionality of an adjustable base depends on the specific base design and is not a feature controlled or guaranteed by My Green Mattress, the mattress manufacturer. The adjustable base in question was purchased from another retailer and is not part of the My Green Mattress product line.
We remain committed to providing accurate information about our products and ensuring customer satisfaction. We now have the following information on our mattress pages: Compatible with adjustable bed bases; slight gaps between the mattress and base are normal and will not affect support or comfort. However, based on the facts above, a refund is not applicable in this case.
Please see the reference images below from various mattress retailers that show the normal gap between the mattress and adjustable base. Let us know if further clarification is needed.
Thank you,

Since, there is a difference of opinion on this, and My Green Mattress has demonstrated multiple times that they have no desire to resolve this issue; all I can say is look at the attached photo, and you be the judge.
We have been selling adjustable bases and mattresses since 1979 and are also an authorized warranty repair center for several leading adjustable bed brands. The photo you shared does not appear unusual for most mattresses—latex being the primary exception, as it hugs the base closely with almost no gap. Even all-foam mattresses, especially thicker memory foam models, commonly exhibit a similar gap. As a service technician, I’ve encountered nearly every major mattress brand and style, and most will show a gap like this. For example, Sleep Number previously bolted mattresses to the base to prevent gapping; today, they use a magnet system for the same purpose. In practice, most people never notice the gap because they’re in the bed and not viewing it from the side. Additionally, from a different camera angle, you’d see the gap does not extend across the entire mattress—where a person lies, the mattress contacts the base. The edges of most foam and innerspring mattresses are intentionally reinforced to improve the experience when sitting on the edge and for safer entry and exit. This reinforcement causes the edges to gap more than the sleeping area. All mattress manufacturers strive to balance flexibility (to contour with the adjustable base) and edge strength (for enhanced support and safety). While this may not resolve your current concern, I share this to help educate and set realistic expectations for others considering similar setups. Best regards,

Hi Ryan,
Thanks for the information. The attached photo refutes your following statement:
“Additionally, from a different camera angle, you’d see the gap does not extend across the entire mattress—where a person lies, the mattress contacts the base”.
As seen in the attached photo a significant gap does exist between the mattress and base that extends across the entire mattress in the area where a person lies The attached photo were taken with a human body (approximately 145 pound) lying on the mattress. Review the attached photo, and you can be the judge if a hybrid mattress is right for you. Since it has been indicated that a gap between an adjustable base and hybrid mattress is an industry standard, it is beyond me why mattress manufactures/sales folks/websites do not disclose this to the consumer. If the consumer is made aware of this they may choose a different type of mattress or disclosure may influence the options they choose on an adjustable base.
