My Green Mattress Organic Dreams versus Sonno mattreses from Design Within Reach

We are about to purchase a new bed from Design Within Reach. I’ll supply the link so you can see the pictures showing the slats, etc.: http://www.dwr.com/product/americanmodern-bed-full.do?sortby=ourPicks#.URJ78mfhcUp.
Design Within Reach sells Sonno mattresses, which it says work well with this bed: Modern Sonno Memory Foam Mattresses + Pillows - Design Within Reach. Note the comparison of the Prima mattresses there.
But after seeing and testing the Organic Dreams latex mattress my son and his wife just purchased from url={admin note: discontinued product}]My Green Mattress collection[/url] and reading around on your site, which my son recommended, I now am leaning toward the same mattress they purchased. How do you think they compare? If I buy the latex mattress, do I need to put anything under it, or will it work well on its own with the bed I am about to purchase? Thanks for your help!

Hi Jsavan,

The Sonno mattresses are a memory foam mattress (with a few inches of memory foam over polyfoam) and the My Green Mattress models you linked are all latex models so the comparison between them is very much apples to oranges.

In order to evaluate any mattress though you first need to know the quality of the materials that are in it and in the case of Sonno this means you would need to know the density of the memory foam and polyfoam that they use.

Even if the Prima used high quality versions of both materials though (say 5 lb or greater memory foam and say 2.2 lb HD polyfoam in the base foam) … it would still not have the same “value” as many other memory foam mattresses much less any of the My Green Mattress mattresses which are all or mostly latex which is a much more costly material.

My Green Mattress (and their sister company Quality Sleep which also makes memory foam mattresses that are better value than the Sonno) are invited members of the site which means that I believe they are among the best quality and value in the country. Sonno is “just another mattress” with unknown specs that doesn’t particularly stand out in terms of value. Once you find out the quality of the materials in it, it’s not likely to be particularly good value even compared to “better than average” memory foam mattresses much less an all latex mattress which is in the “best in country” value group

I don’t know the distance between the slats of the bed you linked but based on the picture and the number of slats … they seem to be OK. If you wanted to make sure though (which I would) I would ask them the exact distance between the slats and if it was 3" or less (a little less would be better yet) it would be fine to use directly under the mattress.

Thanks so much. That is really helpful.
