Ive been reading this form, and searching though it since early January 2014. In the beginning I was set on having something based on memory foam and poly foam. I guess I’m stubborn, and its taken me a while to try to absorb what Phoenix is trying to gently convey. The moment I tried latex, I understood.

I started testing.

I found that I love dunlop latex, and prefer it in the topper as well. My testing showed that I liked a firm dunlop core with 2-3 inch dunlop topper.

After mulling over it for a month, and researching, I called Ken at Arizona Premium, and had a good talk with him. Afterward I felt absolutely comfortable ordering a bed from him.

Therefore I “bit the bullet” and decided to purchase the Organic dunlop mattress that he offers. The latex is actually certified organic (GOLS), and although end product is not much different compared to natural dunlop in feel, the process is something that I really wanted to support (so I did).

Ken decided as well that a firm would be the best mattress for me, and if I needed a a small topper later on to make it a bit softer, then I could decide later.

What I like the best is that I can open up my bed, and switch layers around. Ken will be able to help me if I need a topper, or a different layer. I will pay for shipping, but its totally fair, and in the end, I will have a comfortable, natural, and maintainable mattress.

Interesting that my preference was for dunlop more than the talalay (as most seem to like the talalay in the top at least. In the future I may order a 2-3 inch piece of N3 to roll up and put in my closet (to have both options available).

Thank you Phoenix. If it was not for you, and this site, I never would have tried latex, and I might have never even known what I was missing out on.

Hi The_brooke,

I always enjoy my conversations with Ken and he is a great source of knowledge and information.

It’s always interesting to me how different people can be and the preference for some materials over others certainly doesn’t run in families. I’m also tall and slim (6’ 5.5" and about 200 lbs) and I tend to prefer the “feel” of Talalay and my daughter is also tall and slim (over 6’) and she prefers the “feel” of Dunlop from top to bottom and that’s what she purchased … although we do have a generic preference for latex in common. My other daughter (also over 6") also loves her sister’s mattress.

Most importantly … congratulations on your new mattress once again :slight_smile:

I’m looking forward to your feedback when you receive it and I’m hopeful that things will turn out much better this time than they did the first time around.

I received my Mattress yesterday

In lieu of this I would like to make an update to this thread to share my experience and thoughts so far.

Background

I ordered an Organic Dunlop latex mattress with a firm core (relativity speaking its E85), and a soft 3 inch topper from Arizona Premium Mattress.

It was really easy. I called and spoke to Ken for 20 minutes, and Ken gauged what would be the best for me. He ordered a custom core for me, and even found a way to get me a 3 inch topper (when he usually only has access to 2 inch toppers in organic dunlop latex).

Ken also included 2 free natural dunlop pillows in queen size (the proper size).

My experience

Everything came via UPS, its heavy! I’m someone in very good physical condition, and assembling this bed on the floor alone was a bit of a stretch for me, especially with my “bed rug” which does not slide on the floor, and the mattress does not slide on the bed rug therefore positioning was some good exercise. I suggest 2 people to assemble a bed just for precaution, however I was able to complete the task alone by working slowly and carefully.

After the first night, I am very impressed that I didn’t wake up once. Ken managed to select the correct firmness of latex. :wink:

There is also no smell. The latex doesn’t smell at all. There is a slight natural wool odor (which I find quite pleasant) from the cover. Overall I am very impressed. I was expecting some kid of odor during the unpacking, but there was simply nothing that I noticed with my beakish nose.

The bed has almost a magnetic quality to it. I look at the bed, and want to lye down, but its a trap I tell you, once you are in, its so hard to leave.

The cover that is included is so natural and well made. Totally natural cotton (organic even), and natural wool. Its the type of bedding material seldom seen these days (its like it was transported from the chemical free past).

Its only been a day, but I am very happy with my new mattress. The only constructive criticism that I could make, is that it would be nice if there was an option for a thin stretchy cover that put you in closer contact with the latex. Don’t get me wrong, the included cover is the nicest Ive ever slept on, but it would be nice to have the option to get the “closer” feel sometimes too (to the latex that is).

This has been a very positive experience indeed.

Knowledge is power, and the mystery man who administrates this form is attempting to give us the knowledge with out being pushy about it.
