Hi Miamicuse,
I won’t give a direct recommendation from these 4, as I have a bit of a bias against BeautyRest based on personal experiences. They may be anecdotal, but you may want to read what others have said about them, not just listen to my experiences and conversations with others who have owned them.
My brother has the Pressure Smart model, that they bought to replace their pull out couch we sleep on when visiting Florida, and it didn’t work well for us. I often describe it as the “swimming pool cover effect.” It has a very tight top with thick foam perimeter edge support. Personally, I’m not a fan of foam edge support—this video explains edge support, and I tend to agree with that perspective. There are those who swear by it, but it is not on my list of choices.
With the Pressure Smart, the tight top softens and stretches as you sink into the memory foam comfort layer. Over time, it stretches and loosens, creating a dip in the center, like a pool cover, causing both sleepers to roll toward the middle.
I know BeautyRest has updated their World Class lineup, switching from lettered models to numbered ones, which is a step forward. However, my mother-in-law’s BeautyRest (she ordered it on her own at 87 years old) only lasted 14 months before a noticeable deep sag developed under her hip, leading to back pain. I did not even bother trying process a warranty, I immediately ordered her a DLX Premier Hybrid with a firm/medium split internal comfort, and paid for it to avoid the argument. She’s been using the firm side for 17 months now, and it’s still in excellent condition with no issues.
The Celestial Collection uses 2.5 lb viscoelastic memory foam. Here at the Mattress Underground, VE foam should ideally be in the 3.5–5 lb range for better durability and longevity. Also, the edge foam is only 1.7 lb, which may soften and lose effectiveness over time.
In the end, it’s important to choose something that fits your budget and feels right for you. When evaluating mattresses, we tend to look at the components, what they are made with, the densities, materials and support systems.
Do not get enamored with cooling claims like gel infused, mineral infused, cooling fabrics and the like. While they may be some benefit, it is often overstated and focus on the numerical specifications, that can often indicate durability and longevity.
If you like a firm mattress, a couple of quick thoughts are the Brooklyn Bedding Plank Luxe, Titan Series or Helix Plus line. DLX makes the Classic Hybrid in a firm and Engineered Sleep has a Classic mattress that they rate up to a 10/10.
If you find that the Kingsdown is one of the more comfortable of your choices, perhaps that may be a better pick, but it too uses the foam perimeter edge encasement. As mentioned, because I don’t like it, does not make it an inherently bad mattress, it is just one consideration that goes into the thought process when a company is crafting a mattress and the consumer needs to consider when purchasing one.
Just some ideas to think about, as you shop for your new mattress.
