Does anyone happened to know who supplies Natures Embrace with their organic Dunlop latex? Natures Embrace, as I understand it, is part of Renelle that focuses on latex mattresses. It’s apparently usda organic, Oekotex (no surprise), and also Eco Institut certified … I’m guessing not all dunlop makers do all of those things.
Basically I’m trying to match the firmness with other latex I have, and the retailer has no idea of the density, which is the only number I sort of have (since I’ve measured density of what I currently own).
It’s funny because just this am I wrote to Lnr103’s thread that Savvy Rest is unlikely to indicate the specific details of their latex, and here I am trying to get the specific details of dunlop made by the same people that do Savvy Rests dunlop.
Renelle is very secretive about the construction and ILD’s of their latex mattresses. I have tried to get this information in the past, and was told that it is proprietary information and to be kept secret in order to protect them from copycats…

I’m not trying to duplicate a Renelle mattress… I’m trying to buy a piece of latex, and I want the new piece to be similar to a layer that I already. It doesn’t need to be perfect, close is fine. So inquiring about them was accidental to what I’m doing.
I have another brand of high quality dunlop… There’s a bit of a mystery with it. It’s labeled as vsoft / soft / med / firm, but I’ve measured the actual densities of them and they seem high. I won’t post the vendor since it’s not useful info for durability, my numbers need independent review, and they are also finding this a mystery. Needless to say, my existing dunlop is:
Vsoft - was thought to be 55kg/m3 - measures at 70
Soft - was thought to be 65kg/m3 - measured at 80
Medium - never asked what it was thought to be - measured at 92
Firm - unknown - didn’t measure
So… I’m trying to buy a layer of Dunlop latex, CoCo latex it seems, and I’m told my options to buy are soft, med, or firm. I am wanting to purchase the layer that has a more or less similar feel as the ‘soft’ I already own. The problem is of course who knows how a layer of soft coco latex correlates to a layer of soft this other brand, and I can’t test in person, etc., etc.
if I follow the words, then I want to duplicate a soft, therefore I buy a soft coco latex.
if I follow the density, then I want a layer in around the 80kg/m3, and maybe that’s better described as a medium by coco latex.
if I get frustrated, I buy both a soft and med coco latex, swear a bit, and ultimately have an extra layer of high end organic latex kicking around … Which I really don’t need cause I already have enough layers kicking around that I’m able to make a full extra mattress
If the mattress you have is equipped with a zippable cover you could open it up and take a look at the edges of latex. I know Latex International and likely others have an ID tag on their latex that indicates what the tested ILD values were.
Hi Pist0lpete, good idea but it’s unmarked. The “problem” is, there’s little consistency among Dunlop manufacturers for softness, for all variety of reasons. Talalay you usually get ild. It’s not the end of the world, and a common thing people encounter. And truth be told, based on my experience even if someone tells you the density or ild of Dunlop, it may or may not actually be that… And neither of those guarantee a similar feel between vendors. It’s just one of the joys of DIY
