Need advice regarding "box spring" with purchase

I found a mattress I like today but it doesn’t come with a box spring. I don’t particularly like the platform (the slat frame) that I can buy for it. I don’t think I should use my 20 year old box spring but I suppose I could for a while… generally people do not make actual box springs any more. Just wood platforms. Perhaps I should buy an adjustable base and place the mattress on that??

Choosing the right support for your mattress is crucial for your comfort and the longevity of your mattress. You would need to check if your 20 yr old box spring is and active spring box. If you are unsure, you can slide you mattress so it is off the to the side of the boxspring, see video here about 5min in. Then push down on the edge of the box along the perimeter and determine if it compresses. While traditional box springs are less common these days, there are still several options available.

If you’re not a fan of the platform or slat frame typically sold with mattresses, an adjustable base could be sensable alternative. Adjustable bases offer customizable comfort with features like raising the head or foot of the bed, which can be beneficial for various activities such as reading or watching TV in bed. They also provide excellent support for your mattress and can often extend its lifespan.

Additionally, ensure that the adjustable base is compatible with your mattress selection and meets your specific needs for comfort and functionality.

I would check with @ShovlinMattress Shovlin Mattress too, as they make traditional innerspring mattresses

Also Gardner Mattress may be a good resource.

There may be more options that you might have thought.

I am not positive about @foxmattress fox mattress but they may offer one too.

Hope this helps.

Hi Joelle, and welcome!

An adjustable base can be an excellent option. However, you should check with the place where you are thinking of purchasing the mattress. Some mattresses (mainly ones with a rigid layer of springs as opposed to individually pocketed coils) are not compatible with an adjustable base. Many of our customers like the adjustable base with their mattress; they also have many health benefits.

If you call us, we can usually order box springs also.

As Maverick stated, supporting your mattress well is very important.

Hope that is helpful,
Katie
