I am 5’3", 110 lbs, a 95% side sleeper, 5% back sleeper, with many spinal issues so want some cushioning depth so there’s a tiny bit of “hug” and feel like I am sleeping IN the mattress not floating on TOP of the mattress, while still getting good support. I’m also a two-time cancer survivor so want a fully certified organic bed (not just organic components).
I am looking at two Naturepedic beds, however, I don’t need info specific to these beds, I am trying to understand in general coil gauge and how they impact softness, and what role microcoils play in a bed. I gave the specs of each just as an example.
One is the Serenade Plush which has 8" encased coils, which are alternating 16.00 and 15.50 gauge with a 14.50 gauge perimeter.
The other is the Concerto (which only comes in Plush) which has 9.5" encased coils, which are alternating 15.25 and 14.25 gauge with a 13.50 gague perimeter.
The Concerto also has 0.75" high-density micro coils in the pillowtop encasement.
The tell me that the Concerto is the softer of the two (which I was surprised at given that the Concerto coil gauge is lower) but still supportive and is not “zoned”, that the "alternating coils are laid in “strips”.
I’m curious what role the microcoils might play in a mattress.
Can anyone explain what benefit the microcoils might give and also the differing coil height?
The company has been very forthcoming with information and welcomes questions. Is there anything else I should be asking?
They offer a 100 night trial, but I’d rather not go through the hassle of having to return a bed and although they have physical stores, the closest one to use is about 4 hours away and it’s not feasible at this time to make that trip.
Thanks!
@TheCleanBedroom is the best to ask as they sell these and are most familiar.
