Hi all, I’ve been combing through previous threads but still haven’t been able to find much info so here goes:
The Mrs and I ordered a Extra Firm D90 and supposedly 100% all natural latex mattress (home branded) from a local bed shop.
Mattress was delivered a week later, upon unpacking I spotted a label on an otherwise label-less mattress, these are all the info:
Latexco King D85
Natural Stift
Batch number: 23210520235
Since we ordered a D90 and gor a D85 I rang up the shop and they offered to swap it out for an LSK branded latex mattress, they can’t tell me much about the density or ILD of this LSK but guarantee that it will be firmer than the Latexco D85.
From my research I understand that Stift refers to Latexco’s uniform (as opposed to zoned) density mattress, and that the company doesn’t really make 100% natural latex core.
Would anyone be able to shed some light on whether this particular Latexco mattress is natural/synthetic/blended latex? And the process used, Dunlop or Talalay? Any comments on durability and quality of Latexco vs LSK.
Also information and experiences on LSK mattresses will be highly appreciated (not much online that I’ve found).
The shop claims both this and the LSK are 100% natural latex. We paid $AUD 2300 for this.
Ideally we’re hoping the mattress will last us 7-10 years.
Thanks a bunch!
Background info:
I’m in Australia, am ~78kg, Mrs is ~55kg, we’re both combination sleepers and prefer a firmer feel.
We slept on Kymdan previously and like it albeit a bit too firm.
The Latexco is just a touch softer than we’d like but we’re more concern about its durability (that it will sag sooner than a firmer variant), especially when we have a habit of sitting on the mattress near the headboard.
I’m impressed at your observance to these components! Excellent eye. The D85 is roughly a 36 ILD
Latexco has a history of being a great source for latex as well as being a very progressive and forward thinking company.
Yes, right. A stift mattress core has a uniformly perforated surface. The firmness/density is identical over the entire mattress (as opposed to a zoned mattress). This would be a Talalay type methodology. Latexco definitely does make 100% latex cores and I’d feel safe trusting that the local company is telling you the truth that these components are 100% NR latex.
I personally am unfamiliar with LSK, but you may find this forum topic helpful.
Thank you Nikki for your response and confirming that Latexco does make full natural latex.
To update my situation:
We ultimately decided to keep the Latexco since I wasn’t able to find much information about the LSK in the end.
I was a bit concerned about durability of Latexco initially but I’ll trust the shop that it is natural latex as you advise.
Another option offered by the shop was to upgrade the Latexco to a more expensive Getha Icon (full natural latex core with coconut coir) that we laid on on the initial visit. We liked the firmness of the Getha but declined the swap since it has a stiched on pillow top which we didn’t like (the Latexco is essentially a 20cm/~8 inches slab of single density latex in a cotton cover, no topper).
Over the last few days I’ve grown to like the Latexco. I like the firmness/support when moving around and laying on my back but feel I probably need a softer topper for side sleeping.
Anyhow, I rang the shop and told them I’d keep the mattress and enquired about their latex toppers. They only have one thickness and density available in latex (5cm / ~2 inches of D65) that uses Sri Lanka latex. To my surprise they offered to send me the topper for free to make up for the little hiccup we had. Overall pretty happy with the outcome.
Topper should arrive sometimes next week and hopefully it’s all we need for (close to) perfect sleeps.
I’ve never heard of this! This sounds really interesting. What was the feel like in comparison to the all-latex?

I remember it being quite firm but lacking the bounciness found in most latex slab mattresses. Support felt good though. Sale rep wasn’t clear on whether the coconut coir/husk was incorporated as a single layer in the mattress or that the fibres were[strike][/strike] mixed throughout with the latex.
It isn’t clarified on the official Getha website either. Ultimately I ruled it out due to the stitched on topper and concerns about coconut coir/husk disintergrating sooner than the latex.

Wow! That’s great to hear. It sounds like they have a level of integrity that many places do not.

Yes my sentiments also. Really impressed with how they handled the hiccup and it speaks highly of how much they stand behind their products/services.
The topper (D65) has also arrived and after 2 weeks’ worth of sleeps I’m real glad we got it. Bed feels much softer to lie on but support remains good. I do prefer sitting/moving around on the firm bed without the topper though, ah well, can’t ask for everything :). My shoulder pains have also improved greatly since, not completely gone though. Will let my body get used to the bed for a few more months before deciding if we need another layer of topper.
