Hi ChadM,
The first place to start when you are looking for a new mattress is the mattress shopping tutorial here which has all the basic information, steps, and guidelines that can help you make the best possible choices in any budget range … and know how and why to avoid the worst ones (which as you can see in the guidelines here would include purchasing a mattress at a chain store such as Sleepy’s or any major brand along with any mattress where you can’t find out the type and quality of the materials that are inside a mattress you are considering).
There is also more about the most important parts of the “value” of a mattress purchase in post #13 here that can help you make more meaningful comparisons between mattresses.
If you can find out the the specifics of the materials inside this mattress that are listed here and post them on the forum I’d be happy to make some comments about the quality/durability of the materials inside it or the mattress as a whole. Without this information though … it isn’t possible to make any meaningful comments about a mattress or make meaningful comparisons with other mattresses and you would be making a very high risk purchase with much higher odds of buyers remorse much too quickly after a purchase (and you may be fortunate to purchase a mattress that has a useful life of 5 years when many much more costly mattresses won’t last that long for many people). Most of the Serta mattresses in this price range use some very low quality materials in their comfort layers (often 1.2 lb polyfoam or lower) and would have significant weak links in their design and these are the types of “blind purchases” I would avoid in any budget range.
You can read more about “fake sale prices” that are meant to create a false sense of urgency in post #5 here. I would treat these types of sales as a red flag because good quality and value mattresses sold by many manufacturers that use higher quality materials in the same budget ranges are available available every day of the year.
There may be other options that are local to you that you may not know about and if you let me know your city or zip code I’d be happy to let you know about any of the better options or possibilities I’m aware of in your area.
If there are no local options that would make good quality/value choices then an online choice would certainly be worth considering but when you are making an online purchase that you can’t test in person then the options you have after a purchase to make changes to a mattress, exchange layers or the mattress itself, or to return the mattress for a refund would become a more important part of the “value” of the mattress so if you do choose a mattress that isn’t as suitable as you and the online retailer or manufacturer you are dealing with hoped for you still have good options available to you without being “stuck” with purchasing a mattress that you may not be comfortable sleeping on.
There is more about the different ways to choose a mattress and the risks involved with each of them (and some of the ways to reduce the risks) in post #2 here.
Both of these would certainly be better quality/value choices than the Serta mattress you were considering.
The tutorial post also includes several links to lists of some of the better online options I’m aware of and post #3 here and the posts it links to also includes some of the better lower budget options I’m aware of.
