My fiance and I are looking to buy our first bed. It has been since college since I bought one (truth be told my mom got it for me) bout 12 years. All I thought a bed was made from was springs, foam and some cloth. We have found out how wrong I was! We have tried several beds in the area and have agreed we both like a soft air cloud type bed. However the prices we were being quoted were 1500 plus for just the mattress. We found a hotel bed purchaser that we described what we liked to and she provided us with some options that she said were similar to beauty rest mattress we had tried and liked. The cost was way less about 700 for a queen so I am worried about the quality since they do not stock this mattress in store. Using this site I have learned alot about beds however it seems every mattress supplier has their own buzzwords for things and we are a little confused and looking for help.
The bed is made by Restonic it is a Midwest Sleep Visco Adjustable mattress
Quilt:
1.5" Flex foam
1" ortho-pedic foam
Channel Quilted
Top Upholstery:
2" 4lb Memory foam
1 layer of Air Suspension Foam
Lumbar support layer ( highlighted in blue)
Support System:
4" High resiliency Foam
2" Motion reducing foam
10 year non-prorated warranty.
I cant find this bed on restonics website nor is their much information on Midwest Sleeps website. I was hoping somebody could tell me a little bit bout the quality of the bed or at least the company as well as what exactly all these “features” are. Any help would be greatly appreciated as well.
Restonic is a licensee group that includes many privately owned factories and every factory can make different mattresses in different areas of the country (which is why they don’t show the specs of most of their mattresses on their site) so it’s always important to make sure your retailer can find out all the information that you need to make an informed choice (including calling the factory if they don’t have the specs or information you need available).
Some comments on the “buzzwords” …
Quilt: This is the top cover of the mattress and the materials that are quilted to it. 1.5" Flex foam: This is polyfoam … you would need to know the density. 1" ortho-pedic foam: This is also polyfoam (firmer) … you would also need to know the density Channel Quilted: This means that the quilting is in strips that generally run side to side on the mattress (like this)
Top Upholstery: These are the top layers of the mattress or the “comfort layers”. 2" 4lb Memory foam: This is medium quality/density memory foam. 1 layer of Air Suspension Foam: This is probably polyfoam as well and you would need to know the density. It could also be reticulated or “dri fast” foam that has a very high airflow. You would need to ask the specifics Lumbar support layer ( highlighted in blue): This is usually a firmer material in the center third of the mattress where the most weight is. You would need to ask what it was.
Support System: These are the deeper support layers of the mattress 4" High resiliency Foam: This is polyfoam and you would need to know the density. 2" Motion reducing foam": this is also polyfoam and you would need to know the density.
There isn’t enough information here to make any meaningful assessments about the mattress (you would need all the foam types and densities) but if your retailer is knowledgeable and experienced they should not only be willing and able to call the factory to get the information you need (if the factory provides it) but they should be able to explain what it means.
If they don’t know what the specs mean (and many mattress salespeople or retail stores aren’t particularly knowledgeable about mattress materials) then you can post all the specs here and I’d be happy to share my thoughts about them or help you identify any possible “weak links” in the mattress.
Thank you for your answer! I will be stopping by the store this week to see if they can find out or give me the number of the factory so I can find out. I do know these beds are primarily sold to hotels so hopefully they have some good answers for me.
If your retailer doesn’t have the knowledge or experience to 'translate" or explain the specs (assuming either they or you are able to obtain them) then you’re certainly welcome to post them here and I’d be happy to make some comments.
