Hello everyone, my wife and I are needing a new mattress but I need help narrowing it down to our best option(s). We currently sleep on our 10-11 year old temperpedic (not sure of the model). After having it for over a year I began to not be able to sleep on it for longer than 4 hours before my back would wake up from pain and discomfort and I’d have to go sleep on the couch until it was time to get ready for work. My wife had no issues with it until a year or two ago. During her pregnancy and a few months after she would be bed ridden some days. From sitting and laying in bed those days the mattress has been over squished. It returns to normal but when laying on it you can feel yourself sink too far into the mattress for proper spinal alignment, and proper support or key areas.
With the current situation out of the way onto us and hopefully good decisions. I weight 160lbs, my wife is 270lbs. Because of us being different weight sleepers I know we require different mattresses, so I’m looking at two twin XLs (we would like a king). We’re both side sleepers, although I can sleep on my back as well. I have a back injury and have chronic back pain and stiffness.
Because of Covid, our budget is very limited; but we’re only looking to get a few years out of these mattresses until we can get something better. I was looking at Login and Cove for my wife because of the “hybrid” type mattress. I thought the coils would give her the more support she needs because of her higher weight, while still getting the comfort and contouring benefits of the gel/polyfoam layers on top. I was also looking at the silk and snow organic for the same reasons. We’re stuck with a budget of $1100 for hers. I would like to get the Leesa hybrid but it is out of our budget. For me I was looking at the Juno. I know its not great but it’s all i can afford for our overall budget at the moment; and ANYTHING is better than what I’m on right now. I’m also not to worried about the juno being cheap because again we plan on changing them in a few years.
Any help and advice would be massively appreciated. Thank you.
Hey Bashido,
Welcome to The Mattress Underground ! Thanks for your question.
I’m sorry to hear of your long struggle with enjoying a full night’s sleep, Bashido! 9-ish years or so is quite awhile to spend part of the night having a brief sleep on an uncomfortable bed and the other part finally sleeping on the couch. The many nights of interrupted sleep must be frustrating for both you and your wife. I’m sorry to learn too that your wife has recently found the mattress uncomfortable as well. 10-11 years is a pretty long life for a mattress, especially with extended periods involving continual use. You mention that you’re not sure of the Tempurpedic model that you have, but I’m guessing by how you describe it’s “over squished” feeling that it is memory foam. Do both you and your wife prefer memory foams’ “feel” qualities, outside of the support issues your mattress has?
Thanks for including a bit on your personal stats, Bashido. A pair of twin XLs could be a good choice for both of your different weight profiles and comfort/ support needs. Is your current bed a king size and if so, will you be using your current foundation for your new king set up?

Other than the above “ingredients” list, there is no disclosure of component specs to better gauge whether this mattress would be a good fit for your wife in terms of support and durability. Their customer service number is: 866-835-1804, it would be a good idea if you called them and get details on both the comfort layers and support core specs, here is a conversation checklist to guide you through component questions to ask. They offer a 120 night trial, with returns after the first 30 day sleep period has passed, as well as a 15 year warranty (you would want to confirm all of their customer policies via their website and a follow up call with written details for specific questions. Their product warranty specifies that the Logan & Cove mattress must be used on a foundation that provides air circulation, so if you have any concerns about your foundation, you should get clarification from them on that point too.
The Juno is an 8" all foam mattress available in one firmness: medium-firm. The only construction details mentioned is that the cover is polyester/ Viscose knit, comfort layer is 2" full-body cooling gel foam, and support layer is 6" totally support foam. The foams used meet CertiPUR-US standard, offering assurance of no harmful chemicals used in their processing. Their FAQ has a section about proper foundation support for their mattress, specifically for a twin XL, so be sure and review that. With cheaper foam mattresses, you’re likely to find the foams to be on the lower end of the durability scale. You may want to check before purchase and ask what the 2 polyfoams’ weights are and use a minimum 1.5 lbs per cu. ft. as a standard for a suitable base foam material. They do offer a 120 night sleep trial and a 15 year warranty. Their CS number is: 855-237-9370 and they offer online chat also for asking questions on their product.
One final thought is whichever way you decide to go, consider each twin XLs heights during your research. Using two different brands/ types could cause a height difference and result in a less complete sleeping surface area. Are you located where COVID safe showrooms are available? If at all possible, I highly recommend testing several mattresses in person to better determine if she in fact would enjoy the feel of a hybrid and if you still want to continue an all-foam mattress, given your back injury and chronic pain issues. Good luck, Bashido and send updates when you can .
Thanks,
Sensei
