So I been lurking for a few days now here and on Reddit, so I am in need of a new mattress.
Info:
Old bed is a 10 year old beautyrest black which is so uncomfortable.
I’m 5’11 235lbs dad body belly sleeper. I toss and turn a ton I sleep hot and I’m an edge sleeper. And always have pain.
My fiance 5’5 210 ( before pregnancy) she sleeps like a rock, she is a side sleeper but can sleep through anything almost.
The mattresses I been looking at are the flexus quadra or the ultimate hybrid from APM.
Would these be a good mattress for someone of my build and sleep style. Would I be better find a DIY, if so can I get some guidance to which materials I should get
Edit: ended up going with flexus bc of pricing and before the deal runs out. Still would like some guidance though so I am more knowledgeable going forward
Also would like some advice on pillows too. The current one I have that I can sleep with is almost like having nothing. I sleep with my arm under the pillow so anything fluffy or too big I have a hard time adjusting but with my pillow bring extremely flat I feel pressure on both sides of my shoulder so I toss to back and forth constantly
Congrats on your new mattress shopping journey ! Thanks for including a sleep bio with your current mattress and personal stats, as those are always helpful for understanding which materials and constructions may work better for you both. Sorry to hear that your 10 year old Beautyrest Black is uncomfortable for you now and that you always have pain. Different body weights and shapes will have different pressure relief needs. As higher BMI individuals, you’ll need thicker and firmer comfort layers to create a deeper cradle for distributing your weight across the surface of the mattress, as well as firmer support layers to keep your heavier parts from sinking down too far and posing incorrect spinal alignment issues. Mattress durability is also a factor, as body types carrying higher BMIs will compress the layers in a mattress more deeply than body types of a lower BMI, and generally require more durable and firmer materials and components in the upper layers to maintain comfort and support for a similar time period.
Congrats on your new mattress purchase from expert trusted member Flexus Comfort! Thanks too for considering Arizona Premium Mattress, also a TMU expert trusted member. Both the FC Quadra-Flex Pocket Coil Latex Mattress and AZP Ultimate Hybrid Pocket Coil Latex Mattress use Leggett & Platt’s QE Combi-Zone pocket coil support core, featuring 3 zones of support and firmer edge support, as well as a 3" latex comfort layer. This combination should be a good design for your preferred stomach sleeping position and comfortable for your wife as well. We will look forward to your analysis of your new Quadra-Flex model ,following a 30 day sleep adjustment period, as your bodies will need time to acclimate to a new comfort and support feel.
Pillow advice is even more uniquely personal than mattress selection, Padillam5. You may want to check out this recentpost regarding pillow thickness for side sleepers, there is a graphic that depicts how to measure the amount of loft best suited for filling the gap between your head and shoulders, as well as the difference between men and women’s pillow needs. You may want to consider a shredded latex pillow with a zippered encasement. Latex provides natural breathability and cooling, and a shredded pillow in a zippered cover would allow you to remove some of the latex if needed for adjusting pillow loft. Several of our trusted members offer shredded pillows, here are a few that come to mind:
