New DreamFoam Eurotop Latex

I received my new Eurotop Latex mattress from DreamFoam on Monday. I’ve let it expand for about 30 hours and I’ve now slept on it for two nights. So far I like it and I’ve not really experienced any issues sleeping on it as some people mention when they get a new mattress.

We selected a firmness rating of 8. I like a soft / pillow top feel. I had been concerned that 8 would be too soft, but it is not. It is soft, but not what I’d call pillow top or perhaps it is more of a perception because I don’t sink way into it like my last mattress (which I was not happy with anyway). My wife had wanted firmer, so it really is good for us. It is very supportive and contours to our bodies very well.

We are going on a trip for two weeks so in a month we should have a better feel for our overall satisfaction. Right now we are happy with it, and taking into consideration that most people need a few weeks with it to adjust and love it. My only side note, is that had previously used two pillows, but this mattress aligns your back so well, that I needed to go down to one pillow to avoid an abrupt bending. My previous mattress no doubt sank too much.

I should also note that I purchased the Ironwood KD 5" foundation. The cover was nice, though the zipper sits along the frame, so there is no doubt a lot of force along that small surface area. It has a “velcro” adhesive for the boards to the frame, but since the were going to move too much, I glued and screwed them all in. I had to predrill all screw holes, as the first one that I didn’t, cause the wood to split. The wood is very thin and a child ever jumped on your mattress, it may not distribute the force enough to keep wood from cracking. For $300 I was disappointed. For any subsequent purchases, I’ll go another route

Hi JMSFCA.

Thanks for letting us know about your purchase … and congratulations on your new mattress. As you know you are certainly making a great quality/value choice.

Many people forget to consider their pillows once they receive a new mattress. You are correct that your new resultant sleeping position (you may sink in less or more compared to your old mattress, and alignment should hopefully be better) will cause you to take some time to reevaluate your pillow needs. The “bed for your head” plays a very important part in your overall sleep experience. When visiting a store, have a trained comfort consultant assist you in selecting a pillow that is appropriate for your somatotype, sleeping style and mattress. If purchasing online, take stock of your current pillow situation (like you did) and adjust as necessary.

I’m looking forward to your comments and feedback once you’ve returned from your trip and have had some more time to adjust to the product.

Hi JMSFCA,

Thanks for your comments on the foundation you purchased.

I personally wouldn’t have too much concern about the placement of the zipper on the cover. The direction of the forces and the actual amount of movement (if any) are unlikely to cause you an issue.

Using Velcro at the ends to provide a bit of an “anchor” for slat-packs is common, but I like what you did with securing the slats via screws. I’ve recommended that in the past, as it increases the overall solidity of the foundation and cuts down on the potential for noise years down the road. And as you’re aware, pre-drilling is a must when dealing with wood for something like this. Good job, and great suggestion. B)

I’d be surprised if that were the case. Granted, enough force can be exerted to damage even the most stout foundation, but the quality of wood used in this foundation is quite common (I know people are usually surprised at how basic some of these foundations are and they end up building their own), and having the force placed upon the top of the mattress “distributed” and “absorbed” over a wider area means that something like what you described would be unlikely. There are many major brands using platform foundations with only 7-8 slats on top and these tend to work well for regular mattresses (although I would never recommend such a product). I think you’ll be just fine, although you always have the option of reinforcing the product to your own personally preferred level of support.

Thank you again for your comments! :cheer:
