New latex mattress - Dunlop vs Talalay color

Hello,

Hope all of you are doing well!

I just received a delivery of a 4-layer latex mattress and had a couple of questions about the layers. Previously I had a hybrid-latex mattress with a talalay layer, which unfortunately didn’t work out.

My new mattress consists of 2 dunlop bottom layers and two talalay top layers. During assembly, I noticed that the two dunlop layers are dark yellow, almost orange in color, while the two talalay layers are a pale off-white color. Is this to be expected? All the comparison pictures I’ve seen online show dunlop and talalay to be nearly identical in color so I just wanted to make sure there isn’t something wrong. Additionally, one of the layers had a manufacturing date of June 2021 - is it normal to receive a 9 month old latex layer with a brand new mattress?

Lastly, all of the layers have brown discoloration throughout (especially near edges), as well some areas with what looks like dirt/soot. Is this something I should be concerned about or is this typical with latex layers that are delivered separately? Prior to this I’ve only had experience with talalay latex (I tried two different layers from the same company) and both were pristine.

Thank you in advance!

Here’s an image of the layers for reference. Would appreciate it if someone knowledgeable could reply.

Thank you!

I’ve seen some discolouration on both dunlop and talalay so I would not consider that an issue myself. Personally I’d be much more concerned with performance since those layers will be hidden inside the mattress.

It would be nice however if someone could explain why this yellowing happens more on some layers than others and what conditions might cause this to accelerate (ex exposure to UV light)

which market you get it

That’s what I would like to find out as well. I don’t know if the yellowing/discoloration could be a sign of improper storage which might affect the performance. It’s also a bit concerning to me that at least one of the layers is 9 months old. Not sure if it’s normal for a new mattress to be sold with layers that have been sitting in the warehouse for almost a year.

Don’t know if it accounts for all 9 months but because of shipping and port delays, some companies are reporting 4+ month lead times from suppliers. To deal with long lead times order quantities are larger, which could mean it sits in a warehouse longer than usual.
