I previously wrote about a Natura mattress situation that did not work out from Jordan’s. They finally took the mattress away and gave me a refund. Since I did want latex and the only other option with them was a Prana, I moved on. I didn’t start out looking for an organic mattress, but the more I experienced them, the more I enjoyed the lack of any chemical smells along the way. Its not something you really think about (unless you are chemically sensitive to begin with) until you start to “not” experience it and then go back to conventional mattresses/bedding.
After doing MUCH research I decided to take my chances with Cozy Pure. Some of the reviews here with great pictures and descriptions as well as the information on their site gave me the confidence to “risk” it without actually seeing one, as I am up in New England. The Natura was sort of similar, though with a mix of Talalay and Dunlop. I tried some other mattresses at both The Organic Mattress and The Clean Bedroom (all great experiences by the way). I was about to pull the trigger on an OMI Duo and decided at the last minute to go ahead with the Cozy Pure Performance Perfection. It just seemed like it would be a little softer than the Duo (the Duo felt good and is very well made, but firm in the store, knew I would need a topper right away). After all my research I thought that I’d like an all dunlop latex because after sleeping on Tempurpedic, I didn’t want too much “spring” in the feel. Before I found out about latex, I was considering the Cloud Luxe. Since trying different “feels” on different mattresses, I really can’t stand not being able to move around freely, but I did like the support and soft feel when in one position on the Luxe. For me, latex has all the best properties for sleeping. I am a side sleeper with low back issues so pressure relief and good support are a must…but I love softness too.
My first experience with Cozy Pure. I ordered a LaNoodle Topper a few days before making the mattress decision because I knew we could use it on the Tempurpedic if not on whatever new mattress I ended up with. Then I called to ask about the lead time on a mattress…it was only a week or two, so went ahead and placed the order online. That was last Thursday and they ended up shipping it out on Monday…very fast! I also added on a foundation pieces after the fact, sleep deprivation made me think of things out of order! The topper and foundations will arrive early next week.
Well today the mattress arrived…well sort of…Fedex goofed and even though we made an appointment to have them deliver it today, they didn’t get it on the truck and didn’t bother to tell us until we called after the time frame. I felt cursed with my whole mattress situation that was going on these last few weeks. Annoyed, but hanging on to the hope of sleep, I drove up to the distribution center and picked it up. The box had a few tears and punctures (not as bad as the other picture someone posted with their review), they made note of it in case there was damage to the mattress. My luck seemed to be turning, as there was no damage. Whew! Two of us muscled it through and used 2 dollies to get it into the house. Hanz suggested that when I asked about how difficult a king size would be to handle without White Glove delivery. Yes, it’s big and bulky, but the way they pack the mattress, we just put the box right up to where it was going, pulled out the mattress onto the current foundation and unrolled it to the exact position it needed to be. It was actually pretty easy.
My initial thoughts:
Since I haven’t had a good night sleep in over three weeks, not to mention the last year of unsuccessfully trying to make a Tempurpedic Weightless Supreme mattress work for me and the quality issue with the Natura, I wanted to weep when I opened the box from Cozy Pure this evening…The quality is LOVELY!!! No sagging like the Natura, there was some bunching of the top 1.5" layer of latex from shipping, but it was a quick fix to adjust it by unzipping the cover and gently placing it correctly. I immediately got to see the quality of the latex and it’s creamy gorgeousness! The Natura latex had an odor and markings with discolorations which are common (when I was at the unzipped layer), but Cozy Pure has none. In fact the mattress smells fresh and clean…like it just came in off a summer day of being aired outside…really!! I am not usually this descriptive, but I really want to convey my actual experience in case it helps someone. The fabric cover on the latex is so beautiful and soft. This mattress is SO well made! They give 2 free La Noodle pillows and I love, love, love them! They are soft and yet supportive and you can squish them into however you need the pillow to be. I got a shredded latex pillow when I was at Jordan’s and it is still airing out because of the strong “chemical” smell…more like what I had to do with Tempur pillows. Not the Cozy Pure LaNoodles…NO smell, and comfy as can be. I am so impressed and can’t wait to go to bed now. So far, Cozy Pure’s mattress is everything I dreamed it would be, but was wary of the reality. They seem to walk their talk!
I will update again tomorrow with some pictures, etc.
Thank you Mattress Underground for your advice and introducing me to the folks at Cozy Pure!
