New mattress causing bruises

I am from South Africa and need your assistance please and have gone through about 10 mattresses the past 12 months. Either to soft or hard

My current one. Pocket coils (soft coils) with supposedly medium (gentle firm foams) but the ticking is made from tightly knit material. When i lay down, my hips sinks in too far and the ticking so tight at the same time that i actually have bruises on my hips and buttocks

Its been 2 weeks and its hell. I only weigh 70kg

Should i keep it? Give it more time? Or get something else?

Hello PhillipS.

Welcome to our Mattress Forum.

Sorry to hear you’re experiencing pain, and that you’ve had a hard time finding the right mattress for you!

While I can’t tell you exactly what you should do, I can say - the good thing about a mattress that is “too firm” is that you can soften it up with toppers, unlike a mattress that is too soft which is virtually impossible to “firm up.”

While some discomfort on a new mattress is normal, pain is not.

Are you finding this mattress to be too soft and unsupportive?

If so, then I would say you should definitely be looking for a mattress.

Looking forward to extra details about your experience,

Thanks for your reply

I do find my hips going lower than my shoulders and feet with both side and back sleeping. Not sure if it will change over time (break in more evenly) and the ticking will soften and stretch?

My skin is actually “swollen” if that is the right word and burning sensation since i got this mattress. Never had this before
