New mattress question:

Hello, I hope I’m in the right place for this question.
I purchased a bed in box mattress, let it air out for a week and it’s not up to the specifications as far as height, width etc.
I noticed the date on label says it was made in 2018. And I know mattresses shouldn’t be vacuum sealed that long.
Shouldn’t a new mattress be made somewhat closer to present time? Or is there no laws or anything requiring a new mattress to be manufactured in a certain time frame? Thanks!

Hey HelenaNH,

Welcome to The Mattress Underground  ! Thanks for your question.

I’ve got a couple of questions for you before further commenting on this particular question: what bed in a box mattress did you purchase and what are the variances in specs that you have measured? The type components used inside the mattress would make a difference in the amount of time a mattress can remain in a compressed state; some are better suited for being compressed longer amounts of time than others.

Currently, there are no laws requiring a manufacturer to sell compressed mattresses within a certain time frame, production times are generally very close to shipping and distribution, as well as inventory turnover being fairly fast-paced in this category. Looking forward to hearing more on your BB situation, HelenaNH and hope this helps  .

Thanks,
