Hello, I’ve finally joined after reading this site on and off for a year. I’m in the same boat as diamonddistrict on another thread, with severe hip pain. But the more I read the more I get overwhelmed. I’m considering Avocado, Sleep EZ, Winkbed, Latex Mattress Factory, My Green Mattress, and now Ethical mattress; gave up on Saatva as I can’t get to a store. But I really don’t want to order a bed I can’t lie on first. President’s day sales end in a week, and need a new bed ASAP. I’m 65, 150# and 5’5, always preferred side sleeping but can’t with horrible hip pain and often shoulder pain from rotator cuff. I tried and prefer natural latex and coil hybrid and a natural chemical free mattress, need cooling properties, no memory foam- too hot and can’t turn easily. The avocado box top with 3 inch top over the already 3" latex in the mattress was great but the price is crazy expensive and I fear it would give out and deteriorate too quickly even though they have a 365 day trial and lifetime warranty. Can anyone help narrow this down for me?
Hello,
We would love for you to look at our Natural Escape mattress and our organic latex topper.
The Natural Escape is a latex hybrid mattress that offers excellent support paired with 3" of organic latex padding. Our topper adds an additional 2" of a plush organic latex that provides additional pressure relief and contouring, if you liked the Avocado box top I think this would be our best available option.
We would love to help you in your search for a new mattress!

I totally get the overwhelm. At 150 lbs with rotator cuff and hip pain, you need a bed that lets you sink in enough to relieve pressure without making you feel like you’re stuck in a hole.
You aren’t wrong about the Avocado Box Top, it’s a great mattress, but you’re paying a massive premium for the brand name. Since you liked that specific feel, my top pick for you is our Yawnder Mattress (soft).
It is our white label version of the Diamond Generations Tradition Lux. I specifically curated this build to offer that same elite, natural luxury feel as the Avocado, but at a much more realistic price point. Keep in mind that there is some memory foam quilted into the top layer but it below that is latex and coils with a Tencel fabric cover and hand tufting.
The Soft version is perfect for your 150 lb frame. It gives your hip and shoulder the cushion they need to stop the aching, while the coils keep your spine from sagging.
It is breathable, so you won’t deal with the overheating that comes with traditional foam beds.
If you are anywhere near our showroom in San Diego we would love to have you try it out in person

Hi Gigibeanz and thanks for reaching out on this! You might want to consider the Luxerion Hybrid by Latex Mattress Factor as one of the possibilities - Luxerion Hybrid Latex Mattress | Buy Talalay Latex Hybrid Mattress - Latex Mattress Factory
The top layer is 3" of Talalay latex, and I think Talalay is going to be a great choice for your top layer. Talalay does sleep a bit cooler than Dunlop, but more importantly, Talalay is better at contour and pressure relief on your hips and shoulders, so Talalay should do a better job of avoiding any shoulder pain issues than Dunlop would. Furthermore, Talalay can also be helpful in avoiding back pain because it provides more of what we call secondary support. Secondary support fills in the gaps between your body and the mattress. For side sleepers, this is normally the area between a person’s ribs and waist. For back sleepers, this is normally the area between the small of your back and the mattress. If these parts or your body aren’t being held up by the mattress, your muscles will work all night to hold those parts of your body up, which can lead to back pain.
Hi @Gigibeanz
Thank you for considering our products! I know how overwhelming and intimidating this process can be, so I’m going to keep my recommendation simple. ![]()
We sell Avocado mattresses in my store, and the Ultra Plush Green Boxtop is one of our best-sellers, so I know exactly the comfort level you’re seeking. The Avocado has 3" of plush talalay latex on top of 3" of dunlop, with a pocketed coil innerspring.
We can offer you the same comfort level (at a significantly lower price) by combining our 11" Crestview mattress with a 3" Plush Talalay latex topper. The end result would be a mattress that has the same overall comfort level (a 4 on a scale of 0 to 10, with 10 being the firmest), but a better support profile in your midsection and lumbar.
All of our mattresses are toxin-free and made from natural and organic materials right here in New Jersey, and our mattresses maximize airflow by not using any foam encasement. This allows air to move through your mattress and around your body while you sleep, helping excess heat to dissipate naturally. Instead of foam encasement, our mattresses use a stiffer edge coil to maintain good edge support.
The result is a mattress that achieves what I call the “3 keys to a great night’s sleep”…comfort, support and temperature management. Happy to answer any other questions you might have, or chat on the phone if that could help. (I was talking with a woman earlier today with a similar situation…hmmm, that wasn’t you was it? Are you my CIA agent? Hahaha!)
Hello, thank you for the suggestion. How deep is this mattress? I don’t see that on the site. How much memory foam is in the top layer? I saw the graphic with the layers but it doesn’t list memory foam or what each layer is. I can’t turn efficiently on a memory foam top bed. Otherwise this would sound like a good contender in the soft.
Thank you for the suggestion. This combination has possibilities, with the topper being Talalay and 14-18ILD. I’m just trying to weight the difference in getting a mattress that is already soft enough and not having to add anything on top. The upside, I assume, is that the topper can be replaced as needed and the bed would hold up longer? Do you also offer an adjustable base?
Thank you for the comparison with the Avocado Box Top. I’ll try to get out and try more soft beds and see how they feel. I just hate to sleep on my back all the time as that has it’s own problems so I do love that nice soft cushion on my sides as long as it doesn’t make me overheat. However, I hesitate to have to add a topper since those don’t usually also include the temperature neutralizing wool in the topmost layer, do they?
The topper being a separate piece does allow to take direct wear over time and can be replaced as needed while your base mattress stays and holds up. At this time we currently do not offer an adjustable bed base, but all of our mattresses are compatible with adjustable bed bases.
The mattress is 14.5 inches deep with a 3 inch quilted foam layer on top. Here are the updated specs: Yawndner Mattress
Honestly you sound like you already know what you need — a soft, cooling latex hybrid with good pressure relief. At your weight and pain points, go with something that feels plush on top and has a solid return policy. Trying to compare every brand will just slow you down — pick one with a good trial and see how it feels. You can always swap it if it’s not right.
LOL, you are absolutely right, I’m comparing too many trying to get the perfect mattress! Thanks for that little push!
Good morning,
If you are in or around New Jersey, your can always swing by our showroom to try mattresses. I would never blindly recommend a mattress for you. Everyone can talk about what latex and coil is best, but to your point, until you try it, you really will not know what level support and pressure relief will be the best for you.
Hello, thank you but I am in Florida, and not close to any showrooms that carry very many natural mattresses.
What city in Florida?
Just purchased 100% latex from Sleepez. Also a side sleeper and had terrible hip pain on both sides. Previously had rotor cuff issues due to side sleeping and ended up with some laparoscopic surgery on my shoulder. My latex mattress is 10" Dunlop firm on the bottom, Dunlop medium in the middle and Talalay soft for the comfort layer on top. I have been on it now for about 1 week. The pain has improved a good deal now, but still there (not all the time). You have to know that hip pain also needs to be worked out with daily stretches on effected hips and even some exercise. I expect recovery to take some time. I was in a bad bed and in pain for a long time. I used to postpone going to bed until I had no choice, now I look forward to getting in bed early. The pain was bad enough that I was limping most of the day. Now, I’m not. Saying that, I wish I had bought a SOFT for the middle layer of the bed instead of the medium. It’s kind of a conundrum trying to figure out what is best going in blind without testing things out. However, if you don’t need a lot of support due to other pains and problem areas, then a softer bed for hip pain and side sleeping is your best choice. I can confirm as a consumer that SleepEZ customer service is the best. Getting things addressed happens quick and emails are returned within hours not days. A person picks up the phone when you call. My mattress is a queen and it was 2K.
My advice, get any in good shape medium or medium/firm mattress… find one as good as you can and as cheap as you can, and put a 3" soft talaylay topper in a topper cover on it.
I know many companies gave good recommendations of their products here. I don’t mean to interfere with that, I’m just giving my personal opinion. If you were to have access to a good solid foundation of a mattress that’s pretty good, and real cheap, the topper will take care of the rest. And then you don’t have to worry about it wearing out. If it does the cost to replace a topper is much less.
I think blended soft latex is the softest you can buy online. Mattresses.net has it, i read its 14 ild. Then their topper cover is $60.
