New, read everything and need a bit of advice on local Restonic

Hello everyone. First of all THANK YOU. I ended up canceling an ordered Simmons due to this site and I am very grateful for the information put together here and those who keep the site up. THANK YOU.

I have spent days reading everything I can on this website.
I live in Lexington KY and have primarily been focusing on Wildcat Mattress due to them having Restonic. They are also very knowledgeable and super nice. They carry Restonics manufactured in New Albany IN about an hour and a half away. They told me and I have heard from several sources that those are some of the best across the Restonic brand. Actually the coils are made about thirty minutes away from me.

Other than Restonic, I don’t have many choices locally. There is an Original Mattress Factory about two hours away and a Denver Mattress as well.

I found a firm mattress that is soft enough for my wife.
It is a Restonic from the ComfortCare Select line. Store name is the Pageant.

I know usually less foam or denser foam the best on innerspring mattresses, but what about plush tops or eurotops?

This mattress is made with the following:

Quilt / Eurotop
Two layers of 15/16 in Hypersoft Restofoam (Poly foam)

Top of actual mattress is 1 in of Gel infused latex.
Not the little specs, but the blended and you can really feel the firmness of this past the eurotop.
Then two layers of the 15/16 Restofoam (forgot the spec on the weight, but sales person said it was the denser foam)

Then, foam encased zoned tempered Marshall Coil system.

This is also a Centipur rated matress and has 768 coils.

If this didn’t have the eurotop, I think I may be in ok shape with a decent latex top layer, not too much foam under that and a high coil count, but I may also have no idea what I am talking about  I’m a bit worried about the low density foam in that eurotop layer, but is that anything to worry about? It is already extremely squishy on top and seems to easily compress as is. Not sure how much impact it would have compressing over time.

THANK YOU EVERYONE and I eagerly anticipate everyone’s opinions.

Thank you
Steven

Less foam is not necessarily better than more foam and would depend on the design of the mattress that was the best match for you in terms of PPP. The biggest issue though with mattresses that use more foam in the comfort layers is that they will have a higher risk of premature softening and impressions so it’s important to make sure that they are good quality and durable materials regardless of the design of the mattress.

I would also be cautious about any mattress that had thicker layers of polyfoam in the comfort or quilting layers. Unfortunately this doesn’t have enough information to make any meaningful comments about the mattress or identify any potential weal links. What you need is the type and thickness of all the layers listed from the top down (they should add up to be very close to the thickness of the mattress so you know there is nothing missing), the density of any memory foam or polyfoam, and the type and blend of any latex. While it’s not usually the “weak link” of a mattress and your testing will give you a much more effective idea of whether the innerspring is suitable for you … it’s also useful to know the type of innerspring and the number of the coils (which you’ve listed) and the gauge of the wire. If there is more than about “an inch or so” of lower quality foam in the in the top layers of the mattress then it could easily be a weak link in the mattress.

If you can provide the complete specs of the mattress (particularly the foam above the innerspring) … I’d certainly be happy to make some comments about it or help you identify any potential weak links in the mattress.

Phoenix

Phoenix, thank you very much for the reply. I’ll try to add everything I know.
There are a total of three mattresses that are options right now

Mattress One:
Restonic ComfortCare Select Pageant ET
One I described above. I believe that the only foam above the coils in the mattress are those nearly two inches of Resofoam.

ET:
15/16 Hypersoft Restofoam
15/16 Hypersoft Restofoam

1 in Gel Latex (blended)
15/16 Restofoam (non hypersoft)
15/16 Restofoam (non hypersoft)
Coils (gauge ?, 768 count)
15/25 year warranty

That is all the info I have.

Mattress 2:
Restonic Jasper Firm - Comport Care Signature

This one does feel very nice.

Comport Quilt
1 in TempaGel
1/2 Firm RestoFoam

Comfort Layers
1in TempaGel
15/16 Firm RestoFoam

1in support foam of unknown type right above coils
No gauge but count of 884

I don’t have actual density numbers on any of the foam in the Restonics. I’ll make a call tomorrow and see if I can find it out.

Third option is a mattress from the Original Mattress Factory.
I think we will go see them on Saturday. They are several hundred dollars LESS than the Restonics, but the local place has offered to work with us on the price perhaps a chance to match the price if the decision comes down to price point.
I have seen several positive comments on the Original Mattress Factory made mattresses and their materials do seem nice going from what their website says.

So that is where I am at. Think it may be down to one of those three. Even if I add another option, it will be a New Albany made Restonic.Thank you.

Hi Steven6095,

You will need to find out more information in order to assess these mattresses, identify any potential weak links, or make some meaningful comparisons (see the quoted comments from my last reply) …

The good news is that Original Mattress Factory is transparent and will usually provide you with all the information you need about any of their mattresses (it’s in their spec books) and they are a good source of quality and value as well.

Once you have the information you need … if you post it here I’d be happy to make some comments about any of the mattresses you are considering.

Phoenix

Hey Steven6095,

I am not sure where you live exactly but it sounds like maybe you are in PA or Central PA. A heads up on Restonic I found that I could get a Restonic at Smith Furniture House of Furniture in Duncansville PA a couple hundred dollars cheaper then at some of the OTHER furniture stores that had sales similar to 50% off or 30% off + 30% off. That model was the Restonic Comfort Care Select Essex. He did not carry the same name but had it’s equal in another line. He said he can get in most Restonics in if you are willing to wait for a delivery.

I will say I did not find out any of the specs for the Restonics I looked at yet. I emailed them and hopefully will get a response.

I also have been looking at the Dutch Craft which can be found at a lot of smaller furniture stores in this area and have found their line to be one that has interested me in trying out. Thanks to Phoenix and this website I know I will be calling other Mattress stores to investigate their lineups to try to get the best possible mattress for my PPP.

I know I definitely want to look at some mattresses at the Original Mattress Factory.

Well we went to The Original Mattress Factory in Florence KY yesterday.
Manager was the only one there. Super nice and was proud to show off his product.
We were very impressed. The cut aways and the samples of the springs in the stores were better than what you could see on the internet. These things are built extremely well.

We bought one and they are custom making it for us to add their nifty edge supports to it since I sleep on the edge of the mattress.

Phenomenal experience and I would have never found them if not for this site. Thank you.

Hi Stever6095,

Congratulations on your new mattress

I think that OMF makes some good quality/value mattresses and I’m glad the site could help you make such a good choice.

I’m looking forward to your feedback when you’ve received it and have had the chance to sleep on it for a bit.

Wanted to provide an update.
We have been absolutely thrilled with our mattress. To the point our friends think they are a bit crazy for being so obsessed with it.
Just a couple nights and we were accustomed to it and we are sleeping better than ever.

As impressive was the box springs / foundation that came with the mattress purchase. It weighed nearly as much as our old mattress!
The only downside to our new mattress is the weight and that is a sign of quality IMO. This thing is heavy, but I am not at all complaining. Good, heavy metal springs are going to be that way.

We are thrilled with the mattress and grateful to everyone who runs and visits this site that directed us to the OMF.

Hi Steven6095,

Thanks for taking the time to share your update.

It’s great to see that your mattress is working so well for you
