New Sleep EZ 10000

I received a sleep EZ 10000 10" queen mattress about a week ago. My foam layer options were x-firm, firm, medium.

I find the mattress to be very comfortable, and I the first few nights I was shocked that I actually slept for the entire night without waking up for the first time in years.

I do have one complaint, and this is something that I’ve just noticed in the last 2days. The center of the mattress feels considerably softer than the edges. I tend to sleep off to one side of the mattress rather than dead center. When I lay on my back (my main sleep position) on either side of the mattress I feel like I’m tilted toward the center of the mattress, almost like I’m sliding toward the middle. I seem to wake up in the same spot that I fall asleep, but I find this sensation rather annoying when I’m trying to go to sleep. I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this with a sleep EZ mattress? Is this an indication that I may need to swap one of the layers for a firmer layer? I did go to the sleep EZ factory showroom before deciding on the configuration that I have, and at the time I thought it bordered on too firm. I should add that the mattress is well supported; I purchased my foundation from sleep EZ and have a 9 leg metal frame under the foundation.

Just wanted to know what thoughts anyone might have before I give sleep EZ a call.

Hi nhoblitt,

I noticed with the latex layers we received one or two of the layers had a solid edge for about an inch or inch in a half. I noticed when putting the layers together that where this solid edge was (no holes like the rest of the latex layer) it felt firmer. I am thinking this is from the mold that the latex was poured/formed in. I do not know if your latex layers have this or not.

Also I would think the mattress cover might also be making it feel firmer along the edge. As the latex pushes against the fabric, it would make sense to me that it might feel firmer, due to the fact that the mattress is not allowing the latex foam to push out as much. This is just my opinion and nothing concrete on these thoughts. I am sure Phoenix will have an answer to this.

Hi nhoblitt,

Congratulations on your new mattress first of all … I think you made a great choice

You were fortunate to be local and have the chance to test your layer combination in person.

I don’t know what may be causing this sensation but I think that CentralPA has covered some of the possibilities.

Some of the other possibilities could be the foundation or frame under your mattress where the center is firmer than each side and you are feeling this through the mattress (this could be more common with higher weights although it doesn’t sound like this is the case), sleeping close to a partner where you are partly in the “dip” they create, or it could also be that the latex is responding differently from the mattress you are used to and your “sleeping memory” is used to your old mattress which may have been firmer in the middle where you didn’t sleep as much and the latex has a more even softness across the surface. If this was the case it would be a matter of adjusting to a new mattress and a more “even” sleeping surface.

Outside of layers that have the more solid edge which CentralPA mentioned or a layer that was somehow defective … latex has a fairly consistent ILD across the surface with only minor variations that are normally undetectable (although Dunlop can be a little more than Talalay).

It may also be worth talking with Shawn and he may also have some experience with others that have experienced the same “sensation”.
