My spouse has Nervous Leg Syndrome and I have trouble get to sleep each night. I found this forum and need to ask the question, what would you do, try or look for? I have considered a slit king and/or memory foam. What should I look for or try at the dealers when I go looking for a solution?
Hi stuckpipe,
As far as a mattress goes … I would consider several options. First of all and most importantly … I would make sure you test any mattress together to make sure you test specifically for motion isolation. Some mattresses can transmit smaller movements or larger movements in different ways (across the surface or through the deeper layers … including the foundation or bedframe) and I would make sure that you “simulate” your combined sleeping experience as closely as possible when you test the mattress so your testing is more predictive of your actual sleeping experience.
I would lean towards a king size mattress which allows you to have more space in between you.
I would lean towards materials that are more motion isolating (subject to your own testing) which includes memory foam (probably the most effective at absorbing energy and isolating motion), latex, polyfoam, and pocket coils.
If you are unable to find a single mattress that works well for you … then I would strongly consider a split king (two twin XL mattresses) put side by side.
In the worst case for those that are most sensitive to their partner’s movements I would also consider having separate sheets or bedding because these can also be a source of “movement” or shifting that can affect some people.
