Northwest Bedding, Spokane, WA

Hello,
I need help in choosing a new mattress. We are in the market for a king size mattress. My husband is 5’9", about 200 lbs., and I am 5’4", 130 lbs. I was seriously considering Tempurpedic but after reading on this forum, I am concerned about the off gassing and the heat factor. I have come across the Northwest Bedding factory in Spokane, Wa and am wondering if anyone can advise me on the quality of their mattresses or had any experience with them. There is a store that handles them closer to me, so I can look at them there. In the meantime, is there a particular model of theirs you might recommend or another brand? Currently we have an innerspring that is about 8 years old, so we are definitely ready to change. Thanks for any help!

Hi passat,

You can see my thoughts about Northwest Bedding in post #10 here and a forum search on Northwest Bedding will bring up more information and feedback about them as well.

While they would generally be a better quality/value choice than most mainstream mattresses or major brands … outside of testing a mattress for PPP (Posture and alignment, Pressure relief, and Personal preferences) using the testing guidelines in the tutorial post (which is the most important part of a mattress purchase) … a mattress is only as good as its construction and the quality of the materials inside it regardless of the manufacturer so I would make sure that you know the specifics of any mattress you are seriously considering (see this article) so that you can make meaningful comparisons with other similar mattresses.

I’m certainly happy to help with “how” to choose but there are too many unknowns, variables, and personal preferences involved for anyone to suggest “what” specific mattress to choose for someone else based on “theory at a distance” (see mattress firmness/comfort levels in post #2 here).

The brand of a mattress is also not particularly important (outside of whether they will disclose the information you need to evaluate a mattress) because outside of testing for PPP … the quality of the materials are always more important than the name of the manufacturer on a label and all manufacturers have access to similar materials that they can use inside their mattresses.

I just went to the Holy lamb site and here are their specs:

7" Latex Cazenovian - King size - $2,000; 6" Dunlop latex core, 10# (20 oz. per sq. yd.) premium eco wool, quilted organic cover -10 oz., Medium - 30 to 35 ILD

10" Latex Lincklaen - King size - $2950, same as above plus 3" Dunlop latex top layer, each latex layer encased in own 5 oz. organic cotton fabric, covered quilted organic 10 oz. cotton cover. Choices: Medium 30 to 35 ILD, Pillow top - 20 to 25 ILD, Firm- base 36-42 ILD, Pillow 20 to 25 ILD. Comfort adjustments available. $700 for foundation.

I am also willing to head up to Seattle and Tacoma and will look at your list for those sites as well.
My humble thanks again.

Hi Passat,

Both of these mattresses use high quality materials and there are no weak links in either mattress.

Of course how well a mattress matches your specific needs and preferences in terms of PPP and how it compares to your other finalists based on the parts of your personal value equation that are most important to you are important parts of the “value” of a mattress purchase so I would make sure you make some careful “value” comparisons but in terms of quality and durability they would certainly make good choices.
