We purchased the Tempurpedic ProAdapt Medium Hybrid from Mattress Firm. My wife and I are not quite comfortable with it. It seems just a bit too firm. We still have aches from pressure points of hip and shoulders. My wife is on me to exercise the Mattress Firm’s exchange policy and look at other mattresses. Looking for a recommendation that would be better suited for us and from Mattress Firm. We are side sleepers. Im 60 and she is early 50’s. I have had hernia and rotator cuff surgeries in the past 2 years. I have a super tight IT band that bothers my hips when I sleep. Thank you in advance.
So, while there are many who just love TP mattresses, and they are a top seller, there really are better options out there today if one cares to dig deeper on what is available. The assumption here is that you are locked in with MF for the exchange and have to deal with what they offer. I am not positive if this is a very new mattress in their line-up or one that has been around, but I happened to see it in an industry magazine. Since MF sells Serta, I will assume they cant order The Serta Perfect Sleeper Pro line or their equivalent to it. It is a zoned hybrid design that uses latex in its comfort layers rather than memory foam. The zoned latex allows your shoulders and hips to sink just enough, while keeping good support through the lumbar area. Latex is more resilient and responsive than memory foam so you get less of the “sinking in too far” feeling and less heat retention, which often causes pressure points to persist overnight. With your past rotator cuff surgery, hip sensitivity, and tight IT band, a more responsive material that adapts but still supports can reduce aches. There apparently are 3 levels of firmness/feel.
The Perfect Sleeper Pro includes a 5‑Zone coil system under the latex, which improves spinal alignment. The 3 levels of firmness options are the usual deal, firm, medium and plush, so you can choose a softer or medium feel without sacrificing support. The top cover is made with “CoolFeel Pro” fabric and uses graphite‑infused latex, both of which are meant to help with cooling. Again, you have to take the “cooling” claims with a grain of salt, and you should not count on those claims to be a definitive reason for your purchase. If the Tempur‑Pedic is leaving you feeling too rigid, as their memory foam is temperature sensitive. Testing the Perfect Sleeper Pro might give you enough give where needed (shoulder, hip) while preserving the support your surgeries and body alignment still demand.
If all else fails, you may want to consider starting the process over and speaking with someone like @BackScience who can work with you to accommodate all of your ailments by modifying on of their backscience mattresses. This is not to say that others may not work equally as well, but Dr Rick, being a Chiropractic Physician, will understand you needs at a different level.
Hope this helps,
Maverick
I’m sorry to hear that you and your wife are not finding the comfort you need from your new mattress. It’s especially frustrating when you’ve invested in a brand like Tempur-Pedic, and it’s not meeting your expectations, particularly with your history of surgeries and hip pain.
As a chiropractor and mattress designer, I understand the challenges you’re facing. The ProAdapt Medium Hybrid is a great mattress for many, but for side sleepers, it can sometimes lack the plush, pressure-relieving feel needed for hips and shoulders.
While you’re looking at your options at Mattress Firm, I’d like to suggest you also consider a mattress that’s designed to solve the very problems you’re describing.
Tempflow mattresses were created as a direct competitor to Tempur-Pedic, with the goal of improving upon some of the common issues people have with memory foam, such as heat retention and a feeling of being “stuck.”
Specifically, our Tempflow EliteConforma would match-up with the feel of a Tempur-Pedic, but here’s why Tempflow might be a better choice for you:
· Superior Pressure Relief: Our mattresses are designed to provide deep contouring and pressure relief, which is crucial for side sleepers and for alleviating hip and shoulder pain.
· Patented Cooling Technology: We use a patented Airflow Transfer System that promotes airflow and breathability, which can be a significant benefit over traditional memory foam.
· Exceptional Longevity: We stand by the quality of our mattresses with an industry-leading 40-year limited warranty, which is four times longer than Tempur-Pedic’s warranty.
· Customization: We can also optionally offer you our GripLock modular cover system that allows you to easily customize the firmness and support of the mattress. So if you feel a mattress is not quite right, we can send you layers to adjust it at no cost. We can also give you the ability to go softer and even add our patent-pending Lumbar-Flex back support zoning if you need that extra support.
I would be happy to personally assist you in making sure you are choosing the correct mattress for your needs. Please feel free to visit www.Tempflow.com to learn more and you can also give us a call at 800 667-1969 7 days a week.
Thanks, and don’t forget, as a Mattress Underground member, you’re entitled to a 10% discount when you use the code TMU10.
Thanks!
