This question may sound a bit strange but after measuring the space in my bedroom I feel that if I lay my mattress sideways giving us 80" W x 76" L instead that my room layout would be much more workable. Granted I’m 6’ and my wife is 5’6, my toes may hang a bit off the edge but I can probably deal with that. My question is if a hybrid mattress or memory foam mattress is designed to work this way? I.e, would I cause structural issues or perhaps premature aging of the mattress in doing this?
Hi wimasoho,
Sleeping “sideways” or performing a 90-degree rotation on a king mattress is something that we’ve recommended as part of the normal rotation process for king mattresses for 25 years - latex, memory foam or innerspring. Even if your mattress has a “zoned” innerspring, you will not damage the product as long as it is properly supported underneath, although if it is a very specific zoned product (like the FloBeds V-Zone that has been mentioned here on the side) I wouldn’t recommend it, as the mattress will not perform properly. But overall, you shouldn’t have an issue “sleeping sideways” on your king mattress.
