One week in - Tuft & Needle matress, Rough Linen sheets and Buckwheat pillow

This is not generally how I do things - blind buying of items - but in this case I seem to have hit on my holy grail of bed components.

I have had a set of queen smooth linen natural color from Rough Linen sitting unopened for almost a month waiting for a new bed to put them on. It just didn’t seem right to throw them on the old box spring mattress set.

While deciding on a mattress I was browsing around Amazon and happened upon the Beans72 Buckwheat Pillows. First few days after receiving the pillow it was just allowed to air out. First night before use I took out 1 quart of buckwheat hulls - still too hard the following morning. I took out 2 more quarts of hulls and it is pretty much perfect for me. I was more concerned about the pillow being noisy than anything and I have found it to be darn near silent - just a soft rustle while adjusting the pillow.

I have been going back and forth on finding a mattress for about 6 months now. After hitting on a few reviews for Tuft and Needle I pulled the trigger on ordering a queen sized about 2 weeks ago. The mattress shipped in 6 days of the order date and was on my doorstep the following day. I was a bit concerned about the state of the shipping box - it looked like it had been thrown under a herd of elephants. When I pulled the wrapped mattress out of the box everything was perfectly intact despite how the box was treated during shipment. I let the mattress expand for 24 hours before even thinking of trying it out.

It was time to break out the sheets for their inaugural wash - thankfully it was 36F with a breeze that day so they got a quick tumble in the dryer and finished drying outside.

My only complaint was that even with a heavy cotton blanket it slept really cool. Had to also throw on a velour blanket to warm things up. With my previous mattress, cotton sheets and the same velour blanket I was always getting too hot despite my keeping the bedroom at about 58F.

I’m 6’2" and 220 pounds - sleep on my back and side. I was somewhat apprehensive that a 5" mattress could support my sleeping habits but it has done so in spades. After a week I love my new setup despite the fact that it is on the floor.

The only issue with my bed being on the floor is the dogs no longer think they need to ask up since they can just walk onto it  .

Still hunting for a perfect platform bed which I have yet to find.

Tuft & Needle have been great to deal with through the whole process - they are very fast at answering questions.

Hi otaku30,

Thanks for the feedback … I appreciate it.

It’s good to see you are doing so well with all your choices … and congratulations on your new mattress

I’m a little jealous because the rough linen sheets are on my “to buy” list.
