Opinions on this Simmons Beautyrest World Class Super Pillowtop Mattress?

Spent a few hours at Sleepy’s today and this mattress here was my absolute favorite. It felt the most comfortable by far out of any mattress I’ve ever tried before and surprisingly seemed to be very supportive (laying on my right side my back will tell me right away if there’s not enough support but I didn’t feel any pain or tight muscles). But from my research I read that most pillow tops although can be very comfortable initially break down really quick. Is this true for every pillow top? Opinions on this brand and model? Can the same mattress be found elsewhere for cheaper even if it goes by another name?

Hi RipeSmellingButtArea,

This would mostly apply to pillowtops that used lower quality materials which includes most of the major manufacturers such as Simmons.

since a mattress is only as good as its construction and the quality of the materials inside it you would need to know the density of all the foam layers in a mattress to assess the quality of any specific mattress. In the case of the major brands they tend to use lower quality materials than many smaller manufacturers that use higher quality materials in their mattresses in every budget range.

One of the links in the tutorial post is the mattress shopping guidelines here. I would suggest avoiding this mattress based on guideline #1, #2, and #4 as well as some of the others for anyone who wanted to purchase a high quality mattress and make an informed purchase decision. Blind purchases … particularly with major brands where you know that the quality of the materials is relatively low … are never a good idea.

Simmons and the other major brands tend to sell the same mattresses under dozens of different names to prevent meaningful comparison shopping and “price matching” but you can match one to another based on the similarity of the components and foam layers in the mattress but all the variations of the same mattress would be the same low quality/value.

As you can see here … this mattress has over 6" of unknown and mostly lower quality foams and would be a very risky choice.
