Ordered a Vispring Cashmere Superb

Hi there. This is my very first post so please forgive me if it’s in the wrong section.

I recently placed an order for the Vispring Cashmere Superb. There is very little online detailing the real world experience of owning this bed. Considering that this bed seems to be limited to North America, combined with its price point, I don’t imagine there are going to be a lot of these in the wild.

I hope to be in the position to provide a review or at least an amateur impressions for the sake of the internet record so that future buyers of Vispring may have a little more to go on than I did.

My question for the experts and amateurs alike, what would you like to know? What should I be testing or making a mental note of once I’ve got it in my home? Are there any questions you have with respect to why this bed versus another?

I hope I don’t come off as too vague here, I would just love to get a sense of what kind of information would be valuable to TMU readers. Happy to answer everything I can.

Hey FP9,
Welcome to the community!

I’d recommend just sharing how things go day by day—how you feel and what you notice. You know what your previous mattress was like, and now you’ll have a new comparison point.

Your overall experience is what matters most.

Maverick

Did you have a chance to try it before you ordered it?

John

Hi there. Yes! I was fortunate enough to be able to lay on one. We considered the Tiara, Sublime Superb and the Cashmere. They did not have a Signatory Superb in store.

We also visited a Hastens boutique but they were in the midst of turning over their showroom so didn’t have much to show.

Which city are you in?

John

Hello. We’re in Toronto.

Hello again.

I’m happy to say that the Vispring Cashmere Superb mattress has arrived! I have spent 3 nights with it so far. Although the mattress is still in its break-in period and I haven’t been able to spend enough time in it to provide a thorough review; I can share some first impressions.

Before jumping into that I’ll provide a bit of context. I am in my late 30s and have never had anything even approaching a high-end mattress. For the last 7 or 8 years my wife and I have been sleeping on Casper memory foam mattresses. My wife had done some marketing work for Casper and the mattresses were gifted to us. We’ve had two in 8 years. Before that we slept on a $600 no-name mattress I bought from some random furniture store in a suburban strip mall when I was in my early twenties. Suffice it to say that my mattress experience is thin.

I am primarily a side sleeper and have mild scoliosis. I don’t have great posture and I do suffer from back pain. That’s especially true for my lower back.

The Decision Process

I am the type of person that believes in doing some research and investing in quality goods that can last a long time. Since this was the first time in a while that we’d be shelling out our own money for mattress, I really wanted to go as end-game as I could afford. Our primary brand considerations were Hastens and Vispring. We don’t have Savior in Canada and the Duxiana is on the other coast.

Admittedly, the aesthetic of Hastens really speaks to me and I like the feel of horsehair. When we visited Hastens however, the showroom was pretty empty. Not much was on display besides a Herlewing and a Vividus. The salesperson was very nice but didn’t ask many questions aimed at getting a sense of what we were looking for. Immediately she went straight to selling us on a 2000T which I knew was out of my price range. In addition to that, we knew that we were going to place the mattress on a slatted frame. I get that both Hastens and Vispring would rather you have the complete kit including the base. For us, it wasn’t an option. We had just spent a considerable amount of money on a new bed frame that has always been my Wife’s dream to own.

It was clear that while technically you can drop a Hastens on a slatted frame, Vispring actually provides guidance on how to do that properly. We left the Hastens showroom and went straight to Vispring. The Vispring showroom had much more to try. Going in I was most interested in trying the Regal Superb and the Tiara Superb. Both were there. We liked the Regal but my wife thought the Tiara was too soft. She liked the Sublime Superb but I thought it was too firm. Slowly we crept upmarket. We found ourselves trying beds that were a few thousand more, few thousand more again. When we laid on the Cashmere Superb, we both loved how it felt. Going back to the Regal Superb was difficult after jumping off the Cashmere Superb. The Cashmere was at the tippy top of our budget but ultimately we pulled the trigger. We chose medium firmness for both sides. We did not go with a topper, deciding to try it topper free for at least the first month before making a decision whether or not to add one. We did buy the Vispring mattress pad and protector as well.

About the Mattress

The Cashmere superb feels like sort of an odd duck in the Vispring Range. It’s part of the Luxe collection and only available in North America. Featuring two layers of calico encased springs, it’s priced higher than the Sublime Superb but its construction appears closer to that of the lower end Tiara Superb. It shares identical spring count and rows of side stitching. As far as I can tell, it’s basically a Tiara Superb with more luxurious fillings. According to Vispring, the Cashmere Superb has more cashmere than any other Vispring mattress. The bed also features Moosburger horsetail, British fleece wool, cotton, silk and Shetland Wool. It’s bordered in brown Merino wool. It’s the only other bed bordered in off-colour Merino wool other than the Diamond Majesty.

Side note…I kind of like the Merino wool border representing a Vispring bed with comparatively luxurious fillings. If the Diamond Majesty is the 3 layer model, the Cashmere Superb being the 2 layer model that leaves a gap for a single layer model with super luxe fillings and Merino wool border. Vispring if you’re reading this, please name it the Commonwealth Superb in honor of Canada. Also I would like one. Haha!

Arrival and First Impressions

I felt like a kid anticipating Christmas for the month I spent waiting for this mattress to arrive. I think I watched every Vispring related YouTube video that exists. Delivery was swift and painless. Within 30 minutes, they were in and out.

I was ready to jump in. This is my current set up:

  • Solid Oak bed frame with solid pine slats spaced 3” apart
  • Vispring Mattress Pad
  • Vispring Mattress
  • Vispring Mattress Protector
  • Brooklinen Percale Sheets
  • Royal Sovereign Down Duvet
  • St. Geneve Zeigler Down Pillows

When I first laid down it felt very firm. Much firmer than the store. We knew that the slatted base would firm up the feel compared to the mattress on the divan. The store was kind enough to let us test the mattress off the divan to get a sense of how much the difference would be. This was much firmer than that. Through all the reading I did during the waiting period, I knew that it would be firm upon arrival and soften over time. I can say that over 3 nights it continues to soften and get more comfortable over time. Compared to the Casper we’re coming from, I could definitely feel the difference in the level of support. That’s especially true for my lower back, where I struggle with pain the most.

Looking at the mattress itself, the tufting is beautiful. I love the little felt discs under the tufts themselves. The tufts create generously voluptuous mounds of mattress that encourage you to run your hands over it. The tape edge is gorgeous and the hand stitching is perfect. It really is a handsome mattress. Compared to Hastens, Vispring is aesthetically more sober and understated. A little more sex appeal wouldn’t hurt but it appears they are targeting a different sort of buyer.

After night one, I slept well and woke up with zero pain. Again, the mattress was firmer than I’d like but I could feel signs of softening. I ended up taking the mattress protector off for the break in period because I didn’t want anything that slows down that process. Would that actually make a difference? Maybe not. I’ll likely put it back on after the first month.

When I get into bed I’m still very much on top of the mattress but my hips and shoulders are beginning to sink nicely. I know it will never get that Hastens “sleep in the mattress” feeling. If I can split the difference somehow between sleeping “in” and sleeping “on” that would be awesome. The other thing that I’m thinking about is if I want to add a topper or not. In the store, we tried all four toppers offered. We liked the Heaven Luxury Supreme the best. Opulence was nice too. We’ll reassess after a month.

After night two and three, I found that the mattress continued to soften up but now I think my body is adjusting. I woke up with some very mild aches in my lower back. Not surprising given the difference in support and general characteristics of the mattress. As of now I am happy with the purchase and I look forward to how the mattress will continue to break in. I’ll return here will a longer-term review when appropriate and answer any questions in the meantime.

Thank you.

FP9,

Thank you for that!!! This is the comment of the year!!! Bravo!!! Thumbs up!!!

At one point, I did check out ViSpring. I felt like the Tiara Superb was pretty good. I remember some info pamphlets there talking about the vanadium steel used if their springs.

I stopped moving up to their pricier models because the Tiara Superb was at the top of my budget. I did try an Aireloom M1 Firm and actually liked that better. I think I may revisit ViSpring with a fresh attitude and a set of new eyes. I was in a “memory foam” state of mind and now I am in an “inner spring” state of mind due to back pain caused by Tempurpedic.

I oftened rolled my eyes at luxury brands like Hastens, ViSpring and Duxiana. Now Im thinking that I might have been wrong about them. Most people think that spending big money on a good mattress is foolhardy, but I think it is smart. Im exaggerating here, but Id rather have a $700 car and a $70,000 mattress instead of a $70,000 car and a $700 mattress. I would wake up pain free and energized everyday.

What is the point? The world’s best investment is an investment in yourself. Your health and courses and education to increase your income. Buying a mattress is investing in yourself. Buy your good mattress even to the point of taking out a loan to make it happen. People take out huge student loans to invest in themselves. Invest in a good mattress or the S and P 500? Good mattress….hands down!!! As Alex Hormozi says, “Invest in the S and Me 500 instead of the S and P 500.”

John

Ha! Thank you BillyIdol!

I liked the Tiara but every new mattress was like a step into a new frontier that I’d never experienced.

Gosh had there been a Signatory Superb in the store maybe I would have ended up there. Who knows?

I totally agree on the invest in yourself. If you can also do the S&P500 while you’re at it; that’s good too.

Hey there!

The mattress has softened up. I’m planning on doing a flip tomorrow. I think I’m still getting used to it compared to the Casper. It’s so much more plush sometimes I question if it’s too soft. Even though I’m only 170lbs and it’s a medium tension.

My spine is fairly straight too. It’s just such a different feel. I do like it a lot though. I think I’m getting in my own head because of how much it costs and not wanting to make a mistake. Vispring does have the comfort promise so that gives me peace of mind.

I do have a pressure in my hip but I think that’s more me than the mattress.

At this point, I would say the chances of me adding a topper is 90%. I mean, I’ve come this far right?

Glad its working out for you!
Keep us updated!

I often wonder if low or high price tags influence our decision making. If a mattress is low priced, does it make me want to dislike it more? If a mattress is high priced, does it make me gloss over any flaws?

Experiment with random $3500 mattress.

A. Try it out when it has a $700 price tag and record findings

B. Try it out when it has a $22k price tag and record findings

The findings should be identical because it is the same mattress, but I bet the findings would be different based on price tag.

I think even the word “plush” or “firm” colors our perception. I guess its best to test without knowledge of prices or names, but easier said than done!

Best wishes!
John

Oh I think at this price range it’s impossible to not factor it in.

I’m well into the realm of diminishing returns. I could probably get something 90% as good for $5000 or $6000.

Honestly I just really didn’t want foams and I don’t love the feel of latex. I definitely wanted something luxurious. So here we are.

FP9,

I think you are smart for investing in yourself because that is the best investment.

I think the mattress you bought was about $23k……and if you wake up rested and refreshed… its well worth it!

Some people put up with a mattress that makes their back hurt because they want to be cheap! It takes them 2-3 hours per day to recover from that. A cheap mattress can be quite expensive.

Hats off to you for not being deterred by the price and pushing forward with the mattress that is right for you!

John
