Organic kids mattress in Canada

Our 3.5yo daughter has decided she’s done with her crib and has been sleeping on the floor for a month now, so we’re looking to move to a twin bed. Chemicals are a concern for me, so I’m looking for something organic or with certifications it’s free of many common chemicals found in mattresses.

A couple questions I have

Of the 3 below, is there one that is better construction for a growing child (coil only, latex only, or latex/coil hybrid)?

My daughter is tall and thin, she’s at the lower end of the weight spectrum for her age and always has been (she’s probably under 35lbs at close to 4). Should I be looking at medium vs firm for her knowing she doesn’t have a lot of weight to “sink in”?

These are the 3 I’ve narrowed it down to based on budget and reviews and would love the expertise of this community to make a final decision:

Naturepedic Verse - we tried this one out, she liked it, quite bouncy, seems to have good reviews. It’s $1100 on sale which feels like a lot for a kids mattress

Naturelle Juvenile - all latex, wonder if this is a good choice for kids vs hybrid? Price point is great at $500 but I seem to hear a lot of mixed reviews on this company

Fawcett Goldstream hybrid the team at Fawcett said this is their most popular choice for kids. Reviews I’ve read say their mattresses are quite firm, so thinking of getting medium vs firm for her. $999 so middle of the three in cost

Hello Meganfm,

Welcome to the Mattress Underground!

I am not familiar with the other two you mentioned. However, I wanted to add some context on the Naturepedic Verse.

Because of the quality of construction, it has a 25 year warranty and can be used up to 325 pounds (don’t think you will need that!). Teens and even adults can use the Verse.

Therefore, it depends what you are looking for - whether you want a mattress that will last through high school, or whether you are looking for one just to use for now and then purchase another one when she is older.

Another company you could look at, based in Canada, is Obasan. They have an all organic children’s mattress made from organic latex that you may consider.

Best of luck to you in your search! Let us know if we can help in any way.

Thank you! I did look at Obasan, though it’s around $1400 so beyond our budget.

I like the idea of a mattress with a higher weight limit (though if she’s like me, she will outgrow the length of a twin first) but I wondered if that means it will be too firm for a little one given she’s so light right now?

Good morning Meganfm,

Welcome to TMU!

Yes a hybrid coil and organic latex mattress would be excellent for her. Just make sure the cover is made of 100% organic cotton (organic cotton can be labelled organic even if it only contains 10% organic cotton) and quilted will a good quality wool such as Joma.

If you want to avoid coils and prefer to go with a solid latex mattress here’s what we can offer. We can make a 6" TWIN Unison made with a solid firm organic dunlop latex core covered with a certified 100% organic cotton cover quilted with Joma wool. The special price on this mattress for TMU members is $1399 taxes and shipping included + a bonus organic pillow. This is a saving of more than $200 on the Naturpedic Verse you are considering.

Best of luck to you, and feel free to ask more questions as you go through the process

Mario

Sometimes parents will add a topper as their child grows.
